Year 11 Legal Studies

VCE Legal Studies Excursion Reflection

With an early rise, we gathered at Caulfield Station, ready to head to the CBD for our Year 11 Legal Studies excursion to the Supreme and County Court of Victoria.

The day was full of new experiences, starting with a conversation with Supreme Court of Appeal Judge, Rowena Orr. This was enlightening as she shared insights into her journey to reach such a highly regarded position and what it takes to navigate the challenges of her role.

We then explored the historic architecture of the Supreme Court Library and then proceeded to watch a preliminary hearing in which a servitude victim presented her evidence. This gave us a closer look at courtroom procedures, despite the serious nature of the case.

After a much-needed lunch break at Melbourne Central, we headed off to the County Court, where we participated in an interactive jury role-play, experiencing the responsibilities of a juror firsthand.

This was a memorable experience that allowed us to participate in the justice system and give us insight for our studies.
