✨🔮📖LIBRARY📖🔮✨
Our school library is an inclusive and inspiring learning environment that fosters curiosity and creativity!
FOUNDATION
So far this term, Foundation students have read and discussed the picture storybook ‘Peregrines in the City’ by Andrew Kelly and Sue Lawson. Students were given opportunities to make and record their observations of the peregrine falcons that nest in Melbourne’s CBD each year.
They have also enjoyed exploring the newly published picture storybook ‘George the Wizard’ by Tony Armstrong. Students discussed the importance of friendship and letting others see your true colours. They also drew the magical creatures that appeared in the story as well as drawing some of their own!
YEAR 1/2
The picture storybooks, ‘Where the Heart Is’ by Irma Gold and Susannah Crispe and ‘Flipper and Finnegan’ by Sophie Cunningham, have been used to teach our Year 1/2 students about different species of penguins and the devastating effects of oil spills on marine life. Through colourful illustrations and relatable narratives, students have been trying to grasp the consequences of environmental disasters while developing empathy for affected animals. After learning about Phillip Island’s ‘Knits for Nature’ program, students have enjoyed creating their own fairy penguin jumper designs and writing about their penguins on 2Publish!
YEAR 3/4
Literature serves as a powerful tool to help children explore complex topics like emotions and wellbeing. This term, our Year 3/4 students have explored a range of fiction and non-fiction books that focus on the themes of gratitude and self-love, using characters' experiences as a springboard for meaningful class discussions and personal reflections.
This week, students have been reflecting on their personal preferences for texts and their borrowing habits. They have also been using Lamont Books' website to create wish lists for books they would like to see in our library!
YEAR 5/6
Our Year 5/6 students have been engaging with books that explore themes of self-efficacy and sense of purpose, aiming to empower them with a deeper understanding of their capabilities and ambitions. Many of the people in the book,'The Wonders of Never Giving Up’ by Maddy Mara, had to overcome challenges, like gender stereotypes and racism. Inspired by their stories, each student selected an individual to research more deeply, exploring their life and accomplishments.
