It was a beautiful spring evening for the opening of the Leighland 2024 Senior Art Exhibition on Tuesday 12 November. A good crowd of approximately 50+ people were impressed with the level of skill and passion our Senior Art students imbued in their work.
There were 15 Level 2 students who exhibited a range of work from drawing and painting to printmaking, photography and ceramics. Our 7 Level 3 students impressed with their own unique expression of their chosen theme.
Everything from digitalised collage and character drawings to printmaking and mixed media paintings. Haunting photos of memories evoked long lost thoughts of past events and cardboard sculpture reinvented the classic still life of fruit in a bowl where steam trains can emerge from a cherry. The always popular genre of portraiture was also tackled with great aplomb with a range of paintings of current Leighland senior students.
Thank you to all who attended the opening, and the school community in general, for your ongoing interest in the Arts and the important role they play in directing our thoughts to the deeper and richer aspects of human life that make life worth living.
Congratulations to Sarah and Daniel who had an artwork selected for the annual ‘Artrage’ Exhibition (for senior art students who completed a Level 3 course) that will tour the State next year, starting with QVMAG in Launceston this December.
Sarah’s painting is titled ‘Self-Portrait’ and Daniel’s sculpture titled ‘This is not an apple’ are a great addition to this highlight of the Art Calendar in Tasmania.
