PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Good afternoon everyone,

I can not believe that we are in week 8 with just under 4 weeks to go.

We have been flat out attempting to finalise staffing and classes in preparation for Term 1.

We are looking forward to getting swimming underway next week, and ask that all parents read the information thoroughly that has been sent home.

We also can’t wait for the Grade 3-6 Swimming Carnival on Monday 16th December.

We have a large number of Air Purifiers currently in storage that were delivered during COVID.  Whilst we cannot give these away, we are offering families the opportunity to borrow if you have a need for these at home.  A current staff member has these in her daughters’ bedrooms, and she believes this has assisted in the air circulation and supported challenges with congestion.

If you would like one of these, please contact the office, and Amber or Jacquie will arrange a time for you to collect.  We will also replace the filter prior to collection.

We are replacing Grade 5 and 6 Bite Tables with new furniture for 2025.  We have sold a number of these on Marketplace, however, still have about 30 left.  If any family would like to take one (or more) home for use as a desk please again contact Amber and Jacquie in the office and we can arrange for a collection in the last week of term.

We will also have a number of locker trolleys that are good for organisation etc. in a shed that will be up for grabs during the final week also.

In addition to this, there will be a couple of bookshelves available, that would also be great for a shed.

Majority of our classes will be moving for the 2025 school year.  This means up to 15 sets of furniture will need to be relocated.  We are asking families to please put 3:30pm on Tuesday 17th December in your calendars to assist us in moving tables and chairs.

All other free-standing furniture will remain in existing spaces.

I will send a Google Form out next week requesting parents to sign up.  This is a massive job, and the more hands-on deck we have the quicker it will be.  We appreciate the community coming together to support us with this.

Ramps

We have been approved by the Victorian School Building Authority to have some ramp rectification works completed here at school.  This has gone out to tender, and a builder has been appointed to this. Majority of this work will take place in January, but there may be some demolition work prior.  One of the ramps being replaced is at the back on the main building where the donated bricks are.  This ramp will include a new deck in the scope of works, and the bricks will be relocated.  We were hoping they would include them in the scope of work, however told that this will not take place.  We will store these bricks until we find a new location for them.  Happy to take suggestions if anyone has an idea of where these could go.

Inclusive Schools Grant Sensory Garden

It was with great excitement that we held our start up meeting with the company appointed to construct our new sensory garden here at school.

This site meeting outlined the final scope of works, timelines and commencement date of the project which will be March 3rd.  For the duration of the project, the front of the school will be closed.  We will inform all families of details early next year, but so excited that we now have a start date.  Due to the huge scope of works, the stage that was built by Chilwell parents over 25 years ago and unfortunately has seen better days is going.  Whilst we would love to offer this to another school for relocation, we don’t believe this would be able to be effectively managed with the age of the existing product.  We are however open to suggestions if anyone has ideas in relation to this.

Kind regards,

Meg
