FIRE Carrier Commissioning Ceremony
This week, we proudly commissioned our new FIRE Carriers and presented them with their badges. During the special ceremony, students pledged to wear their badges with pride as a visible symbol of being a Friend Igniting Reconciliation through Education within our school and wider community.
Our new FIRE Carriers are:
Anok, Hannah, Jesslyn, Grace, Mina, Millianna, Anissha, Kiyara, Gracia, Paloma, Isabella and Ariana.
As part of the ceremony, our FIRE Carriers shared a meaningful commitment, promising to speak truth with kindness, listen deeply, respect the Earth, serve others with care, and work towards peace, hope, harmony, and Reconciliation.
A special thank you to Rachael, who is an existing FIRE Carrier for helping to run this ceremony.
We are incredibly proud of our FIRE Carriers, who have already begun making a positive impact within our school. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow in their leadership roles and inspire others through their actions throughout the year.
🖱️💻Digital Technology Wrap Up 💻🖱️
This week in Digital Technology, our junior students have been busy building their confidence with Chromebooks.
They have been learning how to log in independently using their usernames and passwords, while also exploring what makes a strong password and who it is safe to share it with. Students have practised important technology skills such as using the touchpad, scrolling, and drag-and-drop functions.
It has been wonderful to see their persistence and growing independence as they become more confident digital learners.
In the senior school, students have been exploring how computer systems work. They learned that technology is made up of both hardware and software, and that computers take information from users, process it, and produce an output. Students were fascinated to discover that computers use a coding language called binary to process information.
To put their learning into practice, they used binary code to create their own pixelated images, gaining a deeper understanding of how computers communicate and store information.

LS3 Juniors: Building Writing Skills, One Sandcastle at a Time!
Our Clinic 1 students have been busy learning about the procedural genre in Writing. Procedures are a type of text that teach the reader how to do or make something by following a series of clear steps.
To support their learning, students explored the structure of a procedure, including a title, a list of materials needed, and step-by-step instructions. They also learnt to use sequencing words such as first, then, and next to help organise their ideas in the correct order.
As part of this unit, students wrote their own procedures explaining how to make a sandcastle. They carefully considered the materials required, such as sand, spades and buckets, before writing clear instructions for each stage of the process. Students were encouraged to use action words (verbs) and simple, clear language to help their reader successfully follow their procedures.
To bring their learning to life, students participated in a hands-on activity in the sandpit where they directed their teacher on how to build a sandcastle. The teacher followed their instructions exactly as they were given, helping students discover the importance of giving clear and specific directions. This experience showed them that if instructions are too vague or if important details are left out, the task may not be completed as intended. Students quickly learnt the value of using precise language to ensure their reader can successfully follow each step.
We were impressed by the enthusiasm students showed during this unit and their growing confidence in organising their ideas into a structured piece of writing. Their sandcastle procedures demonstrated their understanding of sequencing, sentence construction and the purpose of procedural texts. It has been wonderful to see students apply their learning in a practical and meaningful way while developing confidence as young writers.
Have a lovely weekend,
LS3 Junior Teachers

SENIOR SPORT
On Firday, June 19th, the Summer Lightning Prem was held across various stadiums and ovals. This full-day event was organised in a round-robin format to ascertain which teams would progress to the Divisional Competition.
Netball and Volleystars faced off at Casey Indoor Stadium. Both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship towards each other and their rivals. We express our gratitude to Melody.and Amanda. Melody consistently conducted practices with both of her Netball teams, and her dedication and commitment are truly admirable. She noted that they exhibited improvement, which is the intended goal. What a remarkable opportunity they experienced!
Our Netball Mixed team and Volleystars mixed A team came first and will progress to Divisional. Our Volleystars B team came second. What a remarkable opportunity they experienced!
We thank Louise (Ivy’s mum), a parent from the SFS community, for her assistance to Melody on that day.. The activities unfolded seamlessly due to the collaboration and support of our SFS Community. Both of our Netball teams achieved third place. Congratulations!!
This semester, our AFL 9’s was conducted in a slightly different manner; there was no tackling, and it was played in a tag format. The participants competed fairly and thoroughly enjoyed themselves on that day. We extend our gratitude to Michael, our teacher, as well as to our wonderful parents, Olivia (Lachlan’s mum) and Emily for their assistance on that day.
Our Soccer teams played at Livingston Reserve. Their resilience and unwavering determination deserve commendation; well done, girls. They finished fourth overall, competing against a total of 8 teams in the tournament. We also thank Tran (Grace’s mum) for her invaluable support with the girls' team.
The T-Ball team exhibited a commendable never-give-up attitude, which should be recognized and appreciated. Congratulations to the T-Ball teams, and special thanks to Claire for coaching on that day. Our T-Ball boys team came third overall, well done.
