Well Being at NPS

Wellbeing at NPS
Hello families,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you all stayed warm and managed to spend some time together as a family. It’s been a lovely start to Term 3 and amazing to see how settled and happy our students are to be back at school.
I would like to let you know that I will be taking long service leave this term and will be away from Week 3 (Monday 27th of July) and returning in Week 8 (Monday 31st of August).
The Wellbeing Team members for each year level (Brigitte, Izzy, Sam and Declan) will be available for support if needed, or if you have any urgent concerns or issues relating to Wellbeing while I am away, please contact the school office by phone or email (northcote.ps@education.vic.gov.au) and they will be able to direct your query to the most appropriate person.
Please see below for some Wellbeing updates for NPS and I look forward to seeing you all again in Week 8.
Take care,
Natalie
Introducing our Education Support Team
I’d like to take a moment to introduce and give a special shout-out to our superstar Education Support (ES) team! We are incredibly fortunate that we have been able to grow our ES team through eligible funding, allowing us to provide even more support for students in the classroom. Our ES staff are such a valued part of the NPS community, bringing kindness, patience and dedication to everything they do. Their support helps our students feel confident, included and ready to learn each day, and we're so grateful for the positive difference they make across our school. If you happen to see them around the school, please take a moment to say hello.

The Resilience Project Teacher Seminar
On Tuesday the 21st of July, the Wellbeing Team were incredibly lucky enough to attend The Resilience Project Teach Seminar. This took place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition centre and was an entire day focused on teachers understanding the importance of wellbeing, how to feel more energised at work, and better support their students’ mental health.
The first session was presented by the founder of TRP, Hugh Van Cuylenburg, who shared personal stories and experiences on why wellbeing matters now more than ever. This was truly an inspiring and motivating session! We then spent time exploring and learning a range of strategies focused on the GEM model, that we can implement in our classrooms, personal life and school environments to further strengthen the wellbeing of our students, ourselves and community. The final session was a real highlight with the one and only Martin Heppell taking the stage. If you are not familiar with Martin, or ‘Rack’ as he is more affectionately known as, he is a ball of energy, positivity and enthusiasm! We were captivated by his energetic storytelling on how embracing imperfections and demonstrating vulnerability can strengthen connection and support others. We were also lucky enough to get a special shout out from Martin to our students at NPS, you can check this out on our NPS Instagram and Facebook page.
We are extremely grateful that we were given the opportunity to attend this seminar and are excited in continuing our TRP journey at NPS, with a newfound sense of motivation and enthusiasm in implementing strategies for our students to strengthen their GEM skills.
Upcoming ‘Wellbeing’ celebration days
This term we will be recognising ‘Wear it Purple’ day and ‘RU OK?’ day. Our students will complete activities and learn about the importance of these days. Stay tuned for some more information from Brigitte and Sam in our upcoming newsletters about how these days will be recognised and celebrated at NPS.
NCCD data collection
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.
To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy.
For further information please see the fact sheet attached.
