Parenting in a World That Feels Harder Than Ever

Parenting has never been easy. But sometimes it feels like parenting today comes with a whole new set of challenges.

As parents, we are trying to raise happy, kind, confident and resilient children while also juggling work, finances, relationships, busy schedules and our own lives. At the same time, children are growing up in a world that is very different from the one many of us experienced.

There are phones, social media, online games, constant notifications and a lot more information coming at our children from a very young age. They are exposed to other people's lives, opinions and expectations before they are really old enough to understand or process them.

And then there is the pressure on parents. We are constantly told what we should be doing. We should limit screen time, make sure our children eat well, read every night, get enough sleep, encourage exercise, teach resilience, manage their emotions, support their friendships and somehow find time for ourselves too!

It can feel like a lot.

There are times when we all need a little advice, reassurance or a new idea to try at home.

Here are two great websites that offer free, practical resources and support for parents and carers:

🌱 ParentZone – Anglicare Victoria

ParentZone has lots of helpful information, parenting programs, podcasts and practical strategies for families with children of all ages. Topics include managing challenging behaviour, helping children with big emotions, building resilience, improving communication and strengthening family relationships. There are also free parenting groups and workshops available online and in local communities.Visit ParentZone

🦸 BRAVE – University of Queensland

BRAVE is a free, interactive online program designed to help children and teenagers learn strategies for managing worries and anxiety. There are programs specifically designed for young children (ages 3–7), children (8–12) and teenagers (12–17), as well as resources for parents.Explore the BRAVE Program

You don’t need to be struggling to make use of these resources. Sometimes a small idea, a different approach or simply knowing that other parents are going through similar challenges can make a big difference. We encourage families to have a look and see what might be useful for you and your child.
