Principal's Report

The term has flown by, as they always do! It has been great to see the development of the students in my class over this semester, and I know that there has been a lot of hard work and learning going on throughout the school.
The weather was just perfect for our Mid Year Awards Ceremony. It was pleasing to have so many families present to celebrate not only their child’s achievement, but those throughout the school.
Our students make up the majority of our school, and so the positive behaviours and attitudes they bring each day, helps to make our school a great place to come to. Many of the awards given at the ceremony recognised and acknowledged the efforts the students have made throughout Semester 1.
Having never visited the Gnurad-Gundidj Campus, Google Maps didn’t really prepare me for the long drive, especially with a tree down and the horrendous visibility due to heavy rain and fog first thing in the morning! However, once the day dawned for better visibility, it went by pretty quickly, including a visit through the new West Gate tunnel.
It is always such a pleasure to see our students at the end of their time away. The change is instantly visible in the way the students talk, and interact with other adults and their peers. Our group’s Community Learning Project is to run a day for our local primary school students, to have fun, interact with each other and promote wellbeing. While not fully determined, they hope to complete their project by the end of this year. I wish the students and their families a safe return this weekend and look forward to having them return to school next term.

This year’s theme is “50 Years of Deadly” and the celebrations will be held from 5 – 12th July. Unfortunately, while this will be closer to being during school time, it will still fall in the last week of the holidays. NAIDOC Week is a time for celebrating our First Nations People, by honouring, supporting and promoting Indigenous voices, culture and resilience.
The end of Term 2 sees the official end of Semester 1 for students in Years 7 – 10, while our VCE students started Units 2 and 4 a few weeks ago.
Semester 1 Reports will be released to families today. Please remember, there will be no written comments in this cycle, but there will still be results based on the curriculum and learning tasks, and attendance data. If you want to talk to your child’s teacher about their progress, please make sure you email them and they will respond when they return to work. The results from Semester 1 are valuable, even with a change of subjects for Semester 2, as they show your child’s progress in their first 6 months of learning this year.
Being the end of a semester, there will be a change of some of the Year 7 subjects, and the Middle School elective subjects at the start of Term 3. Students will be provided a new timetable at the start of the term, and the new classes may be found in Compass just before school returns.
I hope everyone has a safe and restful break and returns ready to face another busy term!
The first day of school for students is on the 14th of July.
