Lines of Inquiry:

• The relationship between Earth and celestial bodies in our solar system
• The use of space technology and its impact on our lives
• The features of celestial bodies within our solar system

Throughout the unit, students investigated essential questions such as: What does the solar system consist of? What are the properties of the planets? How are celestial bodies connected? These questions inspired rich discussions and deep thinking about the universe and our place within it.

Students explored planetary rotation, the gases and atmospheres of planets, and the unique characteristics of celestial bodies throughout our solar system. Their learning extended beyond the planets as they investigated constellations, the Milky Way, black holes, dark matter and other fascinating phenomena that continue to intrigue scientists and astronomers.

Demonstrating the Learner Profile attributes of Thinker and Communicator, students researched, questioned, analysed information and shared their understandings with others. As a culminating task, students conducted a comparative investigation between two planets, presenting their findings through a digital presentation.

This has been a highly engaging and inspiring unit that has encouraged students to think critically, ask questions and develop a greater appreciation for the vast and complex universe of which we are a part.
