Grade 1/2

At the end of Term 3, we finished our sock puppets. Students had the opportunity to share their puppets through performances. Children could choose between performing and being an audience member. There were many giggles in the crowd.

Grade 3/4

The artwork RLKEYEL (blooming, coming out) inspired our final artwork for the term. Created by 15 of artists, known collectively as the Artists of Ampilatwatja: Alana Ngwarraye Holmes, Colleen Ngwarraye Morton, Dakota Ngwarraye Petrick, Denise Ngwarraye Bonney, Edie Kemarre Holmes, Elizabeth Ngwarraye Bonney, Jacinta Pula Morrison, Jessie Ngwarraye Ross, Julieanne Ngwarraye Morton, Kathleen Nanima Rambler, Kindy Kemarre Ross, Latoya Ngwarraye Petrick, Rosie Kemarre Morton, Sevania Kemarre Bonney. 

This painting was collaborative. Some classes were able to go outside to paint the beautiful view that we get to witness everyday. The students were encouraged to imagine what the land may have been like before all the houses and roads existed. What would we be seeing instead as we looked out over the rolling hills? What plants might we draw? Would there be trees instead of houses? Rocks instead of roads?

The results are outstanding. The talent in our school shines through these artworks. The finished work is being proudly displayed in the office and the grade 3/4 building if you would like to see them up close. It is worth the effort!

Grade 5/6

Students finished Term Two by making squash books (also known as explosion books). The students were very impressed with this simple origami. Some picked it up right away, others took time and practise to get it right. Once complete, students filled their book with artwork inspired by an art movement or style that inspired them.

The results were varied and interesting. Many students were proud to show others how they filled their books. It was a nice way to end the term, as students always love autonomy and freedom in the art room.

Artist of the Month

Harriet, 1C

Harriet loves to create! She is careful and considered when she is making art. This attention to detail shines through in her drawings. Harriet has started using Simply Draw to learn new skills and techniques. She practises often and has made many sketches which she has proudly shared with her peers and teachers. Harriet should be incredibly proud of her work. This Grade One has some serious talent!!
