Boarding Forum and Muster

Thank you to all the families who attended our Boarding Forum and Muster today, it was a wonderful turnout with a lot of important information shared from the school and many questions answered from families. Thank you to Mr Mark Sawle, Mrs Emma Franklin, Ms Rebecca Davies and Chef Nick Harvey for joining us on the panel of speakers.  Also thanks to Miss Tiffany Kok and Miss May Botha for sharing their journeys of being Gap Assistants in Albany.

At the morning tea break, families were delighted by the slide show of photos that was put together by May Botha and following the forum, parents had a tour of the Health Centre Boarding Administration and Boarding Houses.

Following the forum and tour, we had the inaugural Boarding Muster.  Thank you to Mr Brad Harris for his donation of sheep for our spit, to Chef Nick Harvey for providing a great spread of food and to all parents who attended.  We look forward to having even more families join us next year.

Annual Photo Competition

The annual photo competition is now open to all boarders Years Seven to Eleven.  Please encourage your child to take photos over the holidays and enter them in the competition. Boarders can enter up to four photos of landscapes, iconic places, people and characters. We look forward to celebrating the winners at our Christmas dinner towards the end of Term Four.

Kingfisher Fair

Thanks to the Boarding Community for their donations to Kingfisher Fair, it was another successful year on the boarding stand.  A big shout out to the staff and students who volunteered their time selling raffle tickets and rocky road. Thank you to Ms Kate Valleri, Miss May Botha, Miss Tiffany Kok, Mrs Amber Freeman, Hamish Medway, Brianna Cunningham and Georgia Williams.  Amy Medway also had her very own stand selling her crochet items, well done Amy.

Congratulations must also go to the boarders in Endeavour House, they worked all day with Miss Caitlin Griffiths, applying temporary tattoos for a gold coin donation. Well done girls.

Medical Appointments

We would like to explain the process around booking medical appointments throughout the week for our boarders. We have a driver working every weekday, mostly starting at 7.00am with the TAFE and Work Place Learning transportation, however the hours they can work vary each day. On a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday the drivers work from 7.00am to 2.30pm. On a Wednesday and Friday the drivers work from 7.00am to 1.00pm.

Here are the factors we consider when they make an appointment for a boarder:

  • If the boarder requires a supervisor to stay with them for the appointment.
  • The time and day of the appointment.
  • The number of appointments on a day and if the driver can get boarders to appointments on time and return to school in time for the next run in to town.  We may group a few appointments together on a single run.
  • The various destinations around Albany for appointments and the time it takes to transport between them.
  • Trying to ensure students miss minimal class and learning time.

We would like to request that all medical appointments during the day be booked by our Nurses. This allows them to consider all of the factors mentioned above.

If you wish to make your own appointments for your child, we ask that you also arrange the transport for them to and from these appointments or ask them to catch the 3.30pm boarding bus into town and get to the appointment on their own.

The nurses can be contacted by email via nurse@gsg.wa.edu.au, landline on 9844 0319 or mobile on 0475 964 163

Thank you for your help in ensuring our appointments run smoothly.
