Physical Education
Selected Years 4 to 6 students who excelled at our District Athletics Day in Term 1, went on to compete at the Monash-Waverley Division Athletics. We had a total of 10 students represent our school and compete at various events such as 100m sprint and high jump throughout the day. We were fortunate enough to have William (6A), Hirun (6D) and Shiv (4B) qualify for the next event, the Eastern-Metropolitan Regional competition on Thursday 19th October.
Year 6 students will have the opportunity to participate in the following events this term:
- Syndal District Summer Sport Round-Robin in Week 6
- Monash-Waverley Division Boys Netball in Week 6
- Syndal District Cricket Round-Robin in Week 7
Prep
In Term Four, Prep students will participate in two major units: target sports and gymnastics. Our target sports unit will focus on a variety of games that fall under the target sports category, such as bocce, golf and bowling. Students will have multiple opportunities to learn and challenge themselves in these activities and develop vital skills of hand-eye coordination, object control, coordination and concentration. Through a variety of engaging learning tasks, students will become more precise, consistent and accurate when using an object to aim at a range of targets. We will then transition to a gymnastics unit focused on mastering how their bodies move in space. Gymnastics offers an incredible opportunity for children to explore control and balance in a safe and supportive environment. Through exercises and routines, students will develop strength, flexibility, and body awareness, which can then be used and refined throughout a variety of other sports and activities throughout their lives.

Year 1 and 2
In Term Four, Year One and Two learners will participate in two engaging units: an object control unit and a basketball unit. In the first part of the term, our young athletes will delve into an exciting world of sports, honing their abilities to control objects using a variety of different equipment with increasing accuracy. This unit not only promotes physical ability but also instils valuable lessons in patience and focus. The sports and equipment used in Golf, Hockey and Tee ball will be a major focus throughout this unit, as these sports allow learners to use a range of equipment types to control a tennis ball to complete a variety of motions, such as manoeuvre and score a goal, hit a target with precision, or move further through the air with speed. Learners will then transition to a basketball unit with a strong focus on learning the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing and shooting. Students will be able to transfer the learning from the object control unit into their basketball unit and have an awareness and understanding of how to control and manipulate an object to their advantage or intended purpose. Correct technique for dribbling, passing and shooting will be developed throughout the basketball unit.

Year 3 and 4
In Term Four, our Year Three and Four learners will be diving into two exciting units: Soccer and Badminton. Our learners will start the term with soccer, a sport that not only encourages physical fitness but also teamwork and strategic thinking. In this unit, learners will consolidate their kicking techniques, from precise passing to powerful shots on goal. They will also learn to control the soccer ball to keep possession and develop their dribbling skills, to be able to move the ball past opponents. Friendly matches and team play will be a major part of this unit, where they will apply the skills they have developed early in the soccer unit. In the second part of the term, we will transition to badminton, a sport that demands precision and teamwork. Learners will have the opportunity to refine their ability to control the shuttle, pass with accuracy and master various shots over the net. Strong teamwork will be a significant factor to master throughout this unit, as working with your partner/team will allow for greater success in match play.

Year 5 and 6
In Term Four, Year Five and Six students are getting ready for a term filled with soccer and badminton focusing on essential skills and teamwork within these two sports. Throughout the soccer unit, students will have the opportunity to refine their kicking and passing techniques, while also delving into the strategic aspects of the game. Skill development, teamwork, strategy and match play will form a major part of the unit and will be developed through a variety of engaging drills, strategy-based tasks and exciting matches. In the badminton unit, there will be a strong focus on precision and control, passing, strategy and game play. Badminton is an excellent sport for developing hand-eye coordination, agility and control, which will be a major feature throughout the unit. Through these two sports students are improving their ability on how they are able to control an object, such as a shuttle in badminton or a soccer ball, this can then be transferred to any sport that uses an object such as tennis and AFL.
