Holy Saviour School Bulletin

Dear Families,

Today was the final day of school for many Year 12 students across Victoria. The next week will be a busy period for the students as they busily prepare for their exam period which will begin on Tuesday 24th October with the English exam. We wish all Year 12 students every success over the coming month.

Holy Saviour Trivia Night - A HUGE success!

What an amazing night we had celebrating our Trivia Night last Saturday evening! It was so wonderful to see so many people in attendance - current families, past families, parishioners - the energy in the room was full of excitement! Congratulations to the winners (Dan Hicks & team), with a special mention to the teachers table who finished in 2nd place (just 2 points shy of winning!).

A very special thank you must go to Belinda Saville, Denise Konstantinou, Danielle O’Connor, Karen Inguanti & Claudia Castro who worked tirelessly in the days leading up to the event. Thanks also to the School Advisory Council for their work over the past 6 months in preparation, and to the many donors of prizes & auction items.

We managed to raise approximately $4,500 which is an absolutely amazing effort. This money will go towards some new markings on the courts, some new STEAM equipment, and other resources and equipment for the students. Thank you to our amazing community for their contributions and to everyone who was able to come along to support the night!

STEM MAD Day

Congratulations to Bethany, Theresa, Tom and Jayden who represented Holy Saviour at the STEM Making a Difference Day yesterday. They presented their “Caring for Coral” project to many people throughout the day and should be very proud of their achievements. We will hear more about this in next week's newsletter.

Term 4 Uniform

We remind parents and children that term 4 has a ‘No Hat – No Play’ Sunsmart policy. Children must have their hats for every break and PE lesson this term.  It must also be a proper Holy Saviour hat, normal caps with other logos are not our school uniform and children will not be allowed to play unless it is the proper hat. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Just a reminder also that during term 4, all children will be required to wear their sport uniforms  on Tuesdays (dance lessons) and Thursdays (swimming). Full school uniform is to be worn on all other days.

School Advisory Council Vacancies

The School Advisory Council (SAC) provides a forum for discussion and discernment, where the parent/guardian voice and perspective are available to inform and support the decisions made by the Principal and Parish Priest for the good of School and Parish where the wellbeing and outcomes for students is paramount. The role is to give consideration to, and advice on, important School matters in order to support the Principal in the context of the MACS governance arrangements.

We are seeking new SAC Members for the 2024-2026 period, from a mixture of year levels and professional backgrounds. More information regarding the SAC can be found in its Terms of Reference. If you have an interest in being on the SAC, any of the existing members would be happy to be contacted and discuss the commitment involved. If you would like to be involved in the SAC, please complete your details in the attached form and we will be in touch shortly.

School Disco - Friday 20th October

Our school disco is on next Friday 20th October!  All children are welcome to come along to the multi-purpose hall from 6.30pm - 8.45pm for some dancing, music and fun!  We are lucky to have Bop Till You Drop hosting the night. All children will receive a free glow stick on arrival and a zooper dooper at the end of the night. Tickets may be purchased on CDFpay ($5 per child).

Please note that children must be signed in/out by a parent/guardian at the beginning/end of the night.  Parents are not required to stay for the event, but if you would like to then please email Belinda as a WWCC will be required.

Branding Competition -  Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

In Term 1, we asked all staff, parents and students to complete a survey and help us establish 3-5 whole school behaviour expectations so that we could proceed with implementing Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

From the surveys you completed, we established the following as our main expectations:

  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Resilience

Now we need YOUR help (families and students) to ‘brand’ our campaign!

Some schools have used an image for their logo, some have had a play on words (for example the 3 r’s?) and some schools have used colours or pictures of significance to the school. You could even create a mascot linked to something significant in our school environment (eg birds). Since we have such a creative community, we thought it would be great to run a competition for all members of our community to submit a logo which we could use to advertise PBL in our school.

If all entries can be sent to the school office or emailed to Carly Corcoran by Friday 27th October that would be great. Keep an eye out in future newsletters to see who has won our branding competition. Good Luck!

Swimming Program

Our annual swimming program is currently underway at Swimworld Glen Waverley.  Swimming will take place every Thursday for the first 8 weeks of term 4 (Thursday 5th October - Thursday 23rd November)

On swim days all students must wear their bathers under their sports uniform. They must also have a bag/backpack containing their towel, thongs, goggles, underwear and a plastic bag to hold their wet items. Please also ensure that all items are clearly labeled.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to assist on their nominated days. Please refer to the below schedule for your allocated session times:

If you are unable to make it on your allocated date and time please contact the office so an alternate parent helper may be contacted.

Please note that SwimWorld have advised that  NO SPECTATORS are permitted to the swim centre. Only parents/carers who have been authorised by the school and who hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) can be permitted to attend. Swimworld have also requested that Parent Helpers only stay for the duration of their allocated time slot so that the area does not become congested. Please also note that no toddlers or younger siblings are to be brought to the pool for safety reasons.

Book Club

The Issue 7 Scholastic Book Club catalogue was sent home this afternoon. Please submit all orders by Friday 20th October, 5pm.  To view the catalogue online and place your order please click here.
