The FLC celebrated a Father’s and Friends special morning a couple of weeks ago. The students prepared gifts for their dads and some of the other special people in their lives. They engaged in various hands-on activities and a paper airplane competition. Thank you to all of the special adults who joined us for the morning, our students loved having you in their classrooms.
The JLC and MLC engaged in an online Author event in last few days of term; listening to the very popular Andy Griffiths as he launched his final book in the well known ‘Treehouse’ series. Students got to hear from the author and be involved in the interactive event. All JLC and MLC students are now really keen to get their hands on a copy of the book.
Springvale Rise Primary School also celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day, as part of our Annual Book Week celebrations. All students engaged in the online literacy event, which involved a book reading, author chat and other connections to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories. Students got to learn about different approaches to literacy and storytelling.
The MLC students from both campuses, also recently embarked on a history excursion, visiting the famous Polly Woodside at the South Wharf Promenade. Students got to explore and learn about the ship, which was built in Ireland over 100 years ago. Our students enjoyed scrubbing the deck, steering the ship and exploring all of the rooms beneath the deck.
In the last few days of term the SLC students caught the train into the city to explore the Australian Sports Museum inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Everyone was thrilled to meet an Olympian. They tried his sport (curling) and they also got to stand on the famous sporting ground. Students had engaged in a Metro Trains incursion the previous week to support them with catching public transport to the MCG. They learnt about the process of catching a train, how to stay safe including ensuring they could see their teacher at all times.
Finally, I hope all our families have a safe and relaxing holiday break. Please remember to support your children by monitoring any time they spend online, whether that be when they are looking at video clips or chatting with friends, to ensure they are being safe and respectful online users.
Have a fabulous holiday!
