Book Donation Recipients

Book Donation – Lautoka Primary School, Fiji

In term one, Fairfield Primary School, Alphington Primary School, and St. Anthony’s Primary School donated all the books left over from their respective school fairs to engineering company Marine and Civil Maintenance (MCM), who were working in Fiji and wanted to give something back to the local community. This connection came from FPS parent, Nick Critchley. The book donation ceremony was held in September at Lautoka Primary School. 

The ceremony was held at Lautoka Primary School to mark the donation of 4,000 schoolbooks (collected from Fairfield Primary School, Alphington Primary School, and St. Anthony’s Primary School) and 900 library bags MCM had made for each student to use as a library bag.

 

The ceremony was very special – we were welcomed like rock stars as our truck drove in and unloaded the books and library bags. Once unloaded, we were given a very warm welcome by both the Head Teacher and School Manager, before being treated to dancing performances by several student groups.

 

To say the donation was well received does not capture the significance to the school of such a feat. It was expressed by the students in their faces, the teachers in their thanks and best capped off in the words of the Head Teacher who declared during his speech, ‘This is the best day since he became part of the School’.

 

For those of us in attendance, we knew we’d achieved something uniquely significant. We should all be proud of the difference we have made to the Lautoka Primary School Community. A special thanks goes to Fairfield Primary School, Alphington Primary School, and St. Anthony’s Primary School for the donation of the books.
