Division Athletics

After two days of rain it stopped for the Monash Waverley Division Athletics on Thursday 5 October. Despite the cool conditions the children performed extremely well. Fifteen children competed at Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood East in high jump, long jump, triple jump, hurdles, 100m, 200m, 800m, shot put, discus and relay, representing the Mulgrave District and Essex Heights.

All students tried hard to beat their personal best in their events.

Congratulations to everyone who competed. A special mention to the following students who achieved ribbons for placing first to third:

  • Ryan - 2nd in long jump
  • Mason - 3rd in discus
  • Josh - 2nd in high jump, 3rd in 800m
  • Alexandra - 2nd in triple jump
  • Xavier - 3rd in shot put, 2nd in relay.

Wishing Ryan, Josh, Alexandra and the relay team (Josh, Ryan, Jayan & Jordan) all the best at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Athletics on Thursday 19 October at Doncaster Athletics Track.

A huge thanks to the families for driving their children to the event and cheering them on during their events.

Terrific effort everyone!

Athletics day was a blast! In Division I competed in triple jump for the 11 girls category and surprisingly finished in second place. Therefore, I have qualified into Regionals. A special thanks to all the teachers especially Mrs Hocking for motivating and providing us with extra training time for our events.   Alexandra

I was in triple jump for Division and I came fourth. It was fun and enjoying. I got KFC afterwards.   Hardu

I was in the 12 year old boys high jump. I thought I did pretty well making it this far to place sixth out of the whole group.   Nathan

I participated at the Division athletics last Thursday. I did really well placing third. Well done to everyone who participated.   Xavier

I competed in 100m sprints at Division athletics. I placed fourth so I am not moving forward. I am really proud of my efforts and thankful for everyone’s support, especially Mrs Hocking.   Aaliyah

Victorian Athletics Trials

On the 12th of September, I attended the Victorian athletics team tryouts at Knox Park Athletics Track.  I nominated myself to try out for high jump, the 800m and the 1500m.

Mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness were felt leading up to my events. High jump was fun, and I achieved a new personal best of 121cm. The 800m was full of talented kids, including the national champion. I placed 6th in my heat 10th overall out of 21 runners. The 1500m also had tough competition, and I placed 12th overall. My PB’s in all events were very encouraging and I was proud of my efforts.

Placing third in high jump resulted in me being selected for the Vic State Team that competes later this year in Tasmania. Due to other sporting commitments this year, I have decided not to attend, however, I hope to get the opportunity again in the future.

I am really looking forward to competing with my school team mates at the Region Athletics on the 19th of October. GO ESSEX!
