Updates around the college

Marina Walsh - Acting College Principal

Dear families and community members,

Once again, a term that has started with many activities and events.

Year 12 Practice Exams

Whilst we prepare to move into the new buildings, our Year 12 students were the first to use one of them.  Last week, our Year 12s who are doing exams later this year completed their practice exams. They were held over three days, Monday through to Wednesday, with times like those of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) scheduled to start later this month.

Holding practice exams in the new Library space allowed our students to familiarise themselves with the venue as this is where they will have their final VCAA exams.  It was an opportunity to work out the pace they will need to take during each exam. They were also able to identify areas of study they know well and what they need to review further.

The first VCAA exam for some of our students, English, will be on Tuesday 24 October, whilst others will be on Wednesday 25 October for English Language. We wish our students all the best with their final exams.

2024 College Captains

For our current Year 11 students, we have several students that have applied for the role of 2024 College Captain.  The process these students how gone through for selection included three stages.  Initially, they wrote an application and answered various questions about the role. The second stage was an interview with a selection panel, followed by the final stage, giving a speech to our students.  The speeches were held in the Hall in front of our current Years 5 – 11 students.

All applicants did a wonderful job with every stage of the selection process.  I am excited to announce (in alphabetical order) the following students as our 2024 College Captains

  • Michael Keegan
  • Huon McIntosh
  • Angus Scoble
  • Marissa Watts

Events and excursions so far this term

On Friday 13 October, we saw many of Applied Learning students go to the Tongala Industry Day, where they were able to visit a variety of work sites to gain exposure to business and industry opportunities.

We have had multiple sports teams out for interschool competitions and events including the Loddon Mallee Regional Athletics, the Annual Clay Target Championships, Jets Gymnastics, Cricket, Tennis, and Basketball.  Thank you to the students that attended and made the most of these activities; and thank you to the staff that escorted them.

New staff

We are fortunate to have another teacher join us this term.  It is Ria Abance.  Ria can teach Mathematics and Science.  This term, she will be teaching Years 7, 8 and 9 Science in place of David Bourke, who has left our school. Welcome Ria.

Term 4 values

The values for this term have been finalised with a specific behaviour.  Our staff work with students to direct their attention to these values.  Here is the term outline for every family to reference.

Policies

We continue to update our policies at the school.  In August, we updated the Attendance and Complaints policies.  Both are now on our college website after being tabled at our College Council meeting.  Also linked here for your quick access:

In addition, we have now also updated our Yard Duty and Supervision Policy, which can be found on our website.  Here is a copy for you to review:

On behalf of the Principal Team, thank you for your work and effort so far this year.
