School Fair 25th of November

Remembrance Day is Saturday 11th November.

Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when the First World War came to an end. It is officially observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year.

Remembrance Day will be marked by a pause at 11am on Saturday 11th of November 2023 for a minute’s silence, to remember people's service and sacrifice.

As Remembrance Day does not fall on a school day, schools are not required to fly the Australian national flag at the masthead.

Victoria’s Shrine of Remembrance will hold a commemorative service on Remembrance Day. The service will be live streamed on the Shrine’s Facebook and YouTube channels from 10:30 am. Refer to the Shrine of Remembrance website for more information.

Welcome to Ivanhoe Primary School,

Almost all of the information in this week's newsletter regarding the Fair (which is only two weeks away) is new. There's information about what to expect, fair vouchers, parking, entry, activities, rides, stalls, costs, food, drink, the silent auction etc, etc... so please read through the details so you can make the most of this wonderful community day and fundraiser.

One of the biggest drawcards is the Silent Auction incorporating the CLASS ART.  In the past, bidding has been fast and furious. Here are a few examples of class art you can bid on at the silent auction!  Scroll through and click on each image to expand it.

Keep your eyes peeled for our silent auction link.

There will also be First Aid, an ATM, and a Parent’s Room on site. The School Fair is a day the students have voted as one of the best things we do at school! Let’s make this year one to remember!

Your Fair Committee and Class Reps have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to pull everything together. They have all been truly amazing...THANK YOU!

Connecting2Australia

Each month the workers from C2C come to IPS and work in our front garden and the external grounds of the school. They are very proud of the work that they do for us and I was able to tell them how much our community appreciate their attention to detail.

They were thrilled when I told them we wanted to put a photo of the team in this week's newsletter. If you see them in the front garden please stop and say hello.

"Connecting2Australia (C2A) was established in Frankston in 1953 with a mission to support people with a disability to live their chosen life. With an original focus on children – the organisation saw the demand to support adults to have equal participation in society."   (*Sentinel Times)

Planned Works

Continuing with the theme of improving the school grounds, a great deal of work will be happening across the school between now and the start of the next school year. Next week the painters will be in the main Waterdale Rd building. Later in the month many of the eaves around our Year 1 buildings will be replaced. After the Fair, the Foundation playground will be out of action for a period while drainage issues are resolved and the rubber surfaced replaced or repaired. In the Christmas break, new bitumen will be installed near the rear of the Waterdale Rd building, where the Year Fours exit, and the rubber mounds will be replaced.

Some of these works will prove challenging to our current operations, but in the long run well worth some temporary inconveniences.

Kew High School Visit

For the second year in a row, Kew High School generously invited our IPS Year 5 students to experience a ‘Taste of High School’ on Wednesday 8th November.

The day included a sporting, sustainability and LOTE activity in addition to a STEM experiment with the day capped off by a BBQ lunch.

Former IPS students now attending Kew High helped their teachers host the day which provided our Grade 5 students with valuable insights into secondary school life.

AUSTRALIAN BOYS CHOIR – Auditions

Calling all kids who love music!

The Australian Boys Choir are now running programs in both Hawthorn and Truganina. With 85 years of experience, the Choir runs an exceptional program of music education, leading to opportunities to perform choral music at the highest standard locally, nationally and internationally.

Auditions for boys aged 7-9 are currently being held for 2024. Please visit www.australianboyschoir.com.au/join for more info and to book an audition.

The Choir also offers a non-auditioned Early Learners program which is open to both girls and boys aged 4-7 years. Term 4 classes still have a few places available. It is never too late to sign up and get a musical head start. For more info and to book for classes please visit www.australianboyschoir.com.au/our-programs/early-learners/

Holiday Program Survey

A number of families have expressed interest in IPS supporting a Holiday Program onsite. The school worked with a third party provider in 2021 to provide a Holiday Program.  As a result of the low number of participants, likely impacted by the pandemic, the provider elected not to continue. The School Council would like to retest interest from the school community for a potential program offering in 2024.

Scan the QR code to vote or go to IPS Holiday Program: Expression of Interest

A response is required by Friday the 17th of November.

2024 Parent Payment arrangements

Last week we sent home information regarding 2024 Parent Payment arrangements and booklist requirements with your children.

Please look out for this important paperwork and complete and return page 4 of the document to the school office or your child’s classroom in the envelope provided.

Schools provide students with free instruction to fulfil the standard Victorian Curriculum and we want to assure you that all contributions are voluntary.

Nevertheless, the ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and support for our students.

We want to thank you for all your support, whether that is through fundraising or volunteering your time. This has made a huge difference to our school and the programs we can offer.

Your support allows us to:

  • Increase the number of mobile devices available to students.
  • Increase the hours of our education support (aides) and support teachers in the classrooms.
  • Purchase resources over and above the basic essential instructional items
  • To update our projectors and smartboards in our learning spaces.
  • Update School wide site licences for software and purchase new software for student use.
  • Replace and service classroom air conditioners.
  • Purchase play equipment for passive play.
  • Resource the Wellbeing room.
  • Purchase of new outdoor play equipment.
  • Passive play equipment.
  • Refresh our Library book stocks.
  • Provide Specialist furniture e.g., kidney tables for small group and individual instruction.
  • The maintenance persons salary.
  • Purchase of STEM resources such as Micro bits boards, iPads, robotics and coding equipment.
  • We would eventually like to purchase a large retractable projector and screen for the school hall.

Finally

Year 6 Day of Democracy Projects

The Student Voice page showcases the Year 6 Day of Democracy Projects.

"...Our task for this project was to identify an area of democracy that sparked our interests and become an expert. We researched our topics and soaked up the information, delving deeper into areas we were curious about. What people learned about at our democracy show down was anything from Women’s Rights, the voting process, where your taxes go and everything in between..."

Stars of last Week

At Monday's assembly we will award ribbons to those "STARS" from the previous week as well as this week's recipients.

Thank you for your support.
