FIRE Carriers Day - Friday 20th October

On Friday, 20th October the Grade 5 students participated in a FIRE Carriers day. The day involved the students participating in workshops around Aboriginal Culture.

Michael Chisholm from Catholic Education Sandhurst led a workshop about Aboriginal games and former St Kilian’s student, Leila Gurruwiwi spoke to the students about her life’s journey and her time at St Kilian’s. She even brought along her school class photos.

We thank Michael and Leila for giving up their time to speak and work with the Gr 5 students.

The day also involved the FIRE Carriers Commissioning Ceremony. During this ceremony, students and staff who applied to become a FIRE Carrier were commissioned to carry the Aboriginal story and walk the journey of Aboriginal people and the culture for our school in 2024 and beyond.

FIRE stands for Friends Igniting Reconciliation for Education. All Sandhurst schools are part of the FIRE Carrier Project and have a FIRE Carrier Covenant. You can find our Covenant on our school’s website.
