CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading we are continuing to learn to ask and answer questions from a text.

VOCABULARY

Questions: Something that you say or write in order to ask a person about something.

Literal: It is right there in the text, I can point to the answer.

Inferential:The answer is in my head, I need to use text clues to answer the question.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

When reading with your child, encourage them to stop and ask some questions about the text so far.

For example: What will happen next in the story? Why do I think that? How does this story connect with me and me life? Has anything like this ever happened to me before? What emotions do you think the main character is feeling?

When you finish reading, ask your child if any of their questions were answered in the book. Can they point to the part of the book that answered their question?
