Weekly Overview

The weeks continue to race by. Our students enjoyed the short spurt of rain that I'm sure we all welcomed last week. Thanks to those who participated in our Socktober fundraiser, I never knew that some of these amazing socks existed.

Our students this week have been focusing on spreading kind words to peers and friends. It is important that these words continue to be used in all aspects of our community and interactions with others. Sometimes, time is what we need to decide what is right from wrong, a moment to see and predict pathways of a decision. Although we are human and we make errors, we must learn and model behaviour to encourage a positive transformation for our students.

Weekly Goal:

I will give time to make the best decisions for my situation.

Far Out Science

Some of our Stage 3 students (Years 5 + 6) will be undertaking a range of learning at UNE. From all reports the smiles were large and the learning was engaging. Thanks to Miss Fleming for taking the students and allowing them to partake in this wonderful learning experience.

Quote of the day:

"The importance of learning is to never limit your questioning, especially if it's science!"

Look how far they have come

As we are almost halfway through Term 4, it's very easy to forget where the year has gone. Our students at HTS have challenged themselves, engaged in new understanding and have built a positive attitude to their learning throughout the year.

I have spoken and reflected with several students in a discussion of how far they have come from the beginning of the year, they look so surprised and proud of their achievements once focused on.

If you can, try and ask questions like:

  • Do you remember the first day of school and how you felt?
  • How many new skills have you developed throughout this year of learning?
  • What are some of the highlights of your learning this year?
  • Can you remember some of the fears or challenges you went into the year feeling?
  • What strategies have you placed forward to help you manage each day or week or Term?

As teachers, we see this every day, the growth and development of young minds. However, it's a great talking point to identify students' success and reflection on the year and what has empowered them during these times or some of the experiences that have led to obtaining new understandings.

Quote from student A:

"Life is what we make of it, when we put in the work and effort we can see the reward at the end. But then we still continue moving forward."
