Berg Shield 2023

Last Tuesday October 24th, the Marian Berg Shield cricket team travelled to Leeton to take on St. Francis in the state wide knockout competition. Bhavya Chaudhari (20 runs) and Jordon Williams (35 runs) batted well for the first 10 overs to see us head to drinks with all wickets in the bank. After the break they looked to accelerate the run rate by playing more shots, in doing so they chanced their wickets and were both eventually removed. This brought Connor Moore to the crease, however his stay was short lived. Reif Leach (14 not out) and Yash Rathi (11 runs) managed to keep the score ticking over, until Yash was out in the final over. Marian finished 4/100 off the allocated 20 overs

In reply St. Francis was on the attack from ball one. Bhavya (0/12) and Connor (0/12) did their best to stem the flow but it wasn’t until after drinks until Marian took their first and only wicket. Reif Leach (1/20) in his second spell managed to knock over one of the openers, but by this time St Francis were well on their way to chasing down the total. The Marian students tried their best in the field but weren’t good enough to get the win.
