Classroom Reports

Foundation & One

In Mathematics, we have just finished investigating patterns. We found that lots of numbers follow certain sequences, and patterns are found everywhere in nature.  We have also been introduced to the Math's toolbox. It contains lots of items to help us solve word problems.  We have been encouraged to try different 'tools' to help us. The Rekenrek is proving to be one of the most popular to use. It sounds like you DO need a toolbox after using it! You might like to ask your child what else is in the Math's toolbox.

Year 5 & 6

At the end of this week, we will be halfway through the term! Grade 5 and 6 have jam packed their learning time, covering lots of content areas and revisiting others to refine their skills.

Blaz, Bastian, Lily and Flynn competed in the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Games Day last week where they were given different mathematical puzzles to solve in a limited time frame. The group of students thoroughly enjoyed the day and came equal 21st out of 60 teams. Well done Team!

We are beginning to wrap up our Inquiry unit of 'Food and Fibre', which students have shown a keen interest in. We have explored topics such as Milk Production, Australian Wheat and Healthy Eating. Last Friday, students had the opportunity to make their own healthy lunch after completing an audit on their own lunch box. This activity generated lots of open discussion and questions about the main five food groups and how we can easily make small changes to ensure we feel good for the majority of the day.

Students were able to choose from chicken rice paper rolls, boiled eggs, fruit kebabs and strawberry smoothies to enjoy. It was nice to see everyone try something that they wouldn’t usually choose!

Homework reminders are still the same with Reading, Spelling and Math revision. These are important skills that students need to continue working on each week. If your child requires assistance with these homework tasks, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher.

Year 9 Alpine Leadership Camp

Our six students are having a great time. In the last week, our students had Expo. This involved hiking, camping, navigation, and cooking in their Trangia’s. One of the biggest challenges of resilience came from hiking with their heavy backpacks and keeping warm overnight. The hike to Derrick’s Hut seemed to be the most challenging aspect of the walking with steep hills. However, it was fantastic to read each student’s SWAY and see that they made it and were proud of themselves for doing so. Chanelle claims she is the fastest 'tent setter upper'.

Other highlights of the past fortnight include:

  • Alpines Got Talent, run by other very own Chanelle, Lillie and a couple of other students from other schools.
  • Bush Art
  • The Bush Dance
  • Hiking Mount Hotham
  • Visiting Weekend – families coming to visit
  • Mountain Bike Riding
  • Mia was the student leader

Reminders:

Utilise Homework Club:

Homework Club is available to all students on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunchtime. It's an excellent opportunity to work on your assignments in a focused environment, ask questions, and collaborate with peers. Staff members are there to support you, so make the most of this resource to manage your workload effectively.

Seek Support from Teachers:

Your homeroom teachers and classroom teachers are here to help you succeed. If you're facing challenges, whether they're academic or personal, don't hesitate to schedule a meeting with them or our wellbeing staff. They can provide valuable insights, resources, and assistance tailored to your needs. Communication is key, so don't be shy about asking for help.

Year 10 Camp:

Camp will be taking place during Week 10, from December 6 – 8th for our Year 10 students. We are looking forward to heading to Melbourne with students and exploring the city through a range of educational and team-based activities and experiences. PE News - Mr P and Miss Milne

Primary PE

This term our F-2 students have been working on their hand eye coordination and balance. They have thoroughly enjoyed challenging themselves with various activities such as a bean bag target tosses, 10 pin bowling and quoits to name a few.

Year 10 Badminton

This term our Year 10 PE students have been creating and running their own badminton tournament. Students have to coach, umpire, score, complete warmups, take photos, keep statistics, update ladders and results. As well as all these roles, students have the opportunity to play singles and doubles games each week, working on refining their overhead, netting and lifting shots. Below are some photos from our first 2 game weeks.

Mr P’s Secondary Student of the Fortnight is  Aidan Wingfield. Aidan has been participating enthusiastically in our year 8 community sport unit. Further to this, he has also been producing a terrific reflective journal based on his experiences and the benefits of participating in community sport. Great work Aidan on completing all your classwork to a good standard. Keep it up.

Miss M’s Primary PE Student of the Fortnight is Sofia Caserta. Sofia gives each activity her best and has worked well within partnerships and groups, particularly within our Skipping Unit. Well done, Sofia!
