Principal's Report

Dear parents,

Congratulations Mille

I am excited to share that Millie Swale is expecting a baby in March 2024.  Millie will be returning for the first few weeks of 2024 and will be off to start her family.  I wish Millie and her husband Hunter all the very best and hope they enjoy preparing for the arrival of her new family member.

Jedda has arrived!

Jedda the school wellbeing dog has arrived!  Jedda is completing some orientation days with us in the coming weeks where she will be getting used to the environment.  She has a crate in the wellbeing hub and will be either in the crate or on lead with Sue Erwin getting accustomed to the environment.  Sue will be her primary handler while at school until Jedda is comfortable and we will introduce new handlers.  As she settles in, we will have more and more roles for her.  These could include, supporting anxious students, supporting student regulation, listening to students read, attending staff meetings to support staff wellbeing.  Over time, with the right training, Jedda could support students while on excursions and camps.  We are not expecting Jedda to complete any work in classes in the short term.  If you or your child is worried and would like to meet Jedda under tightly controlled and calm conditions, get in touch and we can help with a gentle introduction.

Well done – Year 5/6 Softball team

I would like to congratulate the Year 5/6 boys’ softball team who competed at the regional softball tournament on Tuesday.  The team won one of their three games and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Just as important as their sporting success is the way they went about it.  I had positive feedback from parents who attended the district event and then more positive feedback from the regional event about just how well our students represent themselves and the school as positive and caring students who put in their best effort.  Sportsmanship, fairness and trying their best were all exhibited at the event.  I congratulate the boys for their achievements and the way they have gone about their campaign.

Gisborne Community Care Food Bank – October Donation Drive

Thank you very much to everyone who has brought in food donations for the food bank.  I have spoken to Wally and he will be coming to pick up the donations on Friday the 3rd of November.  The student identified that donating to the food drive was a demonstration of our values of respect and teamwork.

Working Bee – Saturday - 28th October 9am-11am – Hume and Mitchell House Families

We have our next working bee scheduled for this Saturday morning between 9am and 11am with a morning tea provided at 11am.

We’re planning to fill the sand pits, weed and mulch garden beds, paint the front entrance fence, remove gorse from Middle Gully and remove the spider webs on the front of the school.  This will tidy up the school in readiness for the fete on the 12th of September.

We are inviting the families of children in Hume and Mitchell House to come and help us this term.

School Fete

Please put the school fete in your diary for Sunday the 12th of November.  It will be a fun filled day for all the students and families.  If you can spare some time in the lead up or on the day, please contact the school and we will connect you with the fete committee.  The more helpers we get with preparation and on the day, the easier things will run.

Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time),

Matt
