“Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue, education, knowledge; and through humane ways.” Dalai Lama XIV

The importance of transformative education and faith development

The power of a conversation as a first step towards resolving any difference, misunderstanding or confusion over an outcome, behaviour or action is one of the transformative aspects of education at Marian. Marian Catholic College focuses on Restorative Practice, taking a faith-based educational approach to assist students manage wellbeing, behaviour and learning and all the inevitable issues that they may encounter each day. Restorative practice centres on powerful and authentic conversations as a foundation for respectful relationships for all.

So what is it about conversation that makes it one of the most transformative processes we have… to come to an agreement, to clarify our purposes, to review progress and to map the way forward?

Authentic, informed and genuine dialogue will manage all of these things. Five minutes of authentic dialogue between a student and their teacher or parent may not seem like a long time. However, don’t underestimate the power of a conversation and how effectively 5 minutes can be used to support your young people to learn and grow to be the best that they can be.

This week we have been very pleased with the focus on learning demonstrated by the majority of our students and impressed with the graduating Year 12’s who are currently undertaking HSC exams. The students have been organised and motivated and determined to do their best. Special thanks and acknowledgements go to all leaders, teachers and Inclusive Learning staff for their dedication and ongoing support to all students during this important time.

Thank you to all students, staff and families involved in Marian’s schoolhouse citrus sculpture featuring in the Spring Festival and the brilliant multicultural celebrations and dancers on Saturday 14th of October. We are so blessed with a beautiful, supportive and vibrant community.

We also acknowledge with great sadness recent bereavements. Our heartfelt sympathies go to Mrs Renae Savage and all members of her family on the loss of her beloved mother-Mrs Diane Crimmins.

Yours in faith,
