Prep
This week the Preps have had the opportunity to meet real life community heroes! We have had special visits from Fire Fighters and Paramedics and had discussions about how they help to keep us safe.
Some highlights include:-
When the firefighters turned on the fire alarm in the classroom! - Quincy
- When the firefighters showed us their protective uniform! – Kayin
- When we got to walk through the ambulance and sit on the stretcher! – Cira
- When we heard the loud ambulance siren! – Josh
- I loved the paramedics van because inside were lots of bags full of important equipment! – Darcy
Year 1
On Monday the Year 1’s went on an excursion to MoPA as part of our Health inquiry unit. We went to explore the three different types of health we are investigating – physical, social and emotional. We looked at physical health by completing a whole range of different activities that required us to use our bodies.
For social health we worked in teams to complete challenges and our emotional health by practising regulating our emotions.
Some of our highlights included building towers with foam blocks, the wind room and the dance party!
Year 2
The Year 2 students have been enjoying a maths unit of division this week. They have had their first maths groups and had an opportunity to have targeted challenge. Our writing sessions have focused on narrative structure and time connectives where the students have explored how to write paragraphs and increase the tension in their stories. During reading we have explored reading strategies such as character development and making connections. Students really enjoyed delving deeper into the text and using prior experiences to make sense when useful. A reminder we have swimming coming up in Week 7 and 8, so please consent via Compass. Each class will need one parent helper, per session per day. Please look out for a notification in coming weeks.
Year 3
For the past two weeks, Year 3s have been participating in the swimming program. They have had a wonderful time and have learnt lots of new skills. The program ended with some basic lifesaving skills and fun activities. We’d like to thank the instructors at Mentone Aquatic for a great time.
The Year 3s have loved watching the musical performances this week. We’d like to wish everyone the best of luck for tonight. Well done Year 6s! What an incredible performance!
Year 4
Year 4 has been very busy for the past fortnight with the school swimming program. The students have really enjoyed practising their swimming and water safety skills and are looking forward to their swimming carnival on Friday 24th November. Each class has also started Literature Circles for the term and the students have been very keen to read their assigned chapters and make annotations to keep track of their thoughts and ideas. This term the students have more agency over their learning, deciding each week how they will respond to their novel and what they want to share with their discussion group at the end of each week.
Year 5
The Year 5 students have been busy with Sport Training on Friday mornings in preparation for Summer Sport starting in Term 1 next year. They have been learning all about Fractions and playing some great fraction games to help see the correlation between fractions, decimals and percentages. Book Club is in full swing, allowing them to explore and discuss books with each other, (books they may not necessarily choose from the library). This allows them to question others about the book, probe deeper into their understanding and talk about the how the book makes them feel both good, bad and indifferent. The Year 5 students were lucky enough to see both casts of Matilda the Musical perform in the full Dress Rehearsal and were so impressed, they wrote fan mail for the Year 6 students to read!
Year 6
The Year 6’s had an incredibly exciting musical week. Matilda the Musical Jnr. was a hit! Tuesday and Thursday’s performances were both outstanding. All cast, crew, and BPS families must be feeling very proud of the massive effort put into each performance. Every Year 6 student played a crucial part in captivating their audience. The energy and enthusiasm witnessed was impressive. Here are a few shots from Tuesday night, captured backstage. The photos are of the students just before heading onstage.
