Teams in the Spotlight- Mazza Nets U18

We are the Mazza Nets U18 team, coached by Rebecca and managed by Pam. Two team members have played consistently in the team since I started coaching and one of them, Tyson, is my standout. We train with a team of St Brigid’s ladies, coached by Mrs O, and Tyson is consistently kind and plays fairly when faced with some very short female opponents at training. He is our tallest player with an exceptional reach that he makes solid use of on game day. Tyson consistently attends training, is respectful, listens and loves to practice a good half court throw. He has an amazing knack of getting odd shots in, especially if it is more important to consume an Aero bar. Chocolate is his best friend.

Tyson is a valued and respected member of our team and a young man with integrity, honesty and fairness at his core. He is a pleasure to coach and we have been lucky to watch him develop and have him as part of the Nets.

The team have made huge improvements over the season, blending some new players in with previous members and they are really working well together as the season gets to the pointy end. They always play with great sportsmanship and can often be heard encouraging each other from the sidelines. Their amazing team spirit has seen them enjoy their most successful season so far.

Important MJBC Committee Update

Thank you for being a part of Season Two basketball. Over 300 MJBC players have joined us this season to play. However, as signalled in the previous newsletters, the MJBC is in need of members and without them our club player numbers will be impacted in 2024. 

Currently, it is projected that only 4 committee members will hold specific roles in 2024 and so only 20 teams will be able to be supported by the club next year. A portion of which will be reserved for incoming year 7 students.

This number is not set in stone. For every 1 committee role that is filled by the AGM (November 30) an additional 5 teams can be supported by the club. Can you help us keep our club strong and give us as many players as possible the chance to play basketball with MJBC in 2024?

Roles available include: registrar, teams coordinator, uniform coordinator, events coordinator, treasurer and vice president.

If you would like to meet the committee in person, the October meeting will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday 26 October in building 7 @ Mazenod College. All are welcome!
