Junior School Update

Tis the season to be jolly!

All Learning Spaces are madly finishing off Term Four curriculum content and assessments in preparation for reports! Walking through Junior School, you often hear different Learning Spaces practising their Christmas Concert items. This is bringing a lot of smiles and a sense of joy to all. 😊

In addition, students in Year 3 are creating diorama models representing an environmental scene with three dimensional recycled resources and exhibiting in the incidental space!

All Learning Spaces have been focussing on the introduction of the new ‘Talk for Writing’ literacy program. This will continue to be a focus for 2024. Talk for Writing is a unique process that uses spoken activities to develop writing skills. Quality writing is created by first expanding and developing students’ oral language skills and then teaching the necessary steps for exceptional sentence, paragraph, and text construction. Talk for Writing has the potential to dramatically improve students’ writing. The pictures are an example from Year 4.

The approach also offers students with learning and language difficulties an opportunity to develop stronger writing skills. Feedback from students indicates that they find Talk for Writing ‘fun, engaging and motivating.’

Year 5 students are refining speeches, oral presentations, and audience protocols in preparation for Year 6 2024 Leadership. This is a very important time for all because the Year 3 to Year 5 students vote for the College 2024 House Leaders.

Year 6 students have enjoyed experimenting with media and photography, considering light, angles, focus etc. The quality of the images collected is impressive. This week, students will be presenting their Shark Tank inventions. Special guests have been invited to Salvado Catholic College to listen to and judge presentations. Students have really enjoyed this investigation project work.
