Secondary School Update

On Monday afternoon, our Year 7s for 2024 gathered at the College for an orientation to engage them in some of the activities they will be participating in next year. The energy and excitement were evident as almost 100 students gathered with almost half of them visiting from Primary Schools other than SCC. Thank you so much to the secondary teachers who ran activities in Woodwork (Mr Cave), Music (Mrs Knight), Visual Arts (Mrs Gilbert) and Science (Mrs Thomas) to get the students involved by having fun and meeting new people. Thank you also to the PCG Representatives who helped with setting up and running the activities including Jazmine McKeown, Tahlia Patten, Jason Nirwan, Tobias Clegg, Cooper Riley, Lilly Russell, Yazdan Omid and Zoe Aplin; thanks so much for your help!!! A special thanks to Clare and Bradley Fifield who did an amazing job cooking up 200 sausages so everyone involved could enjoy a hotdog at the end.

2024 Subject Choices

The College is currently working hard to complete the timetable for 2024. Students in Year 9 and 10 next year chose their electives a couple of months ago. Whilst most students have received their chosen subjects, in some cases, students will need to consider their options. This is an expected process once electives are part of the timetable. We are in the midst of discussing alternatives with impacted students.

2024 TAFE successes

Well done to Year 9 students Brock Williamson, Manjodh Jhinger, Blair Lawson, Lachlyn Joyce Mitchell, Sophie Phillips, Maaya Premkumar, George New and Chase Petersen, who have been successful in their bid to obtain a place in a TAFE course in 2024. These students will complete an exciting range of courses which are linked to a variety of careers, including Electronics, Building & Construction (including the para-Professional pathway), Horticulture, Applied Digital Technologies and Automotive Vocational Preparation.

The above will mean that in 2024, these students will spend one day per week at TAFE, completing a Certificate II course. These qualifications not only add to our students’ employability skills, but they also address some of students’ 2026 WACE requirements. Being accepted into TAFE is a highly competitive selection process and we are so proud of these students’ achievements. We are sure that they will be wonderful College ambassadors when representing the College next year.

Year 7 Girls Footy Update

On Wednesday November 15, the College’s Year 7 girls Australian rules team participated in their first Carnival and won 4 out of 5 games, placing them Second in their Division! This is a fantastic achievement! Students showed great leadership, sportsmanship and team spirit in all their games! Well done, Team! The College is very proud of you!

“The highlight of the football carnival for me is that we all came together without experience and smashed the carnival, winning 4 out of 5 games. We worked as a team to complete our goal, which was to work together and have fun. We really came together and made sure we had each other’s backs which meant everyone felt like they could play their best game.”
