Glenthorne National Park Excursion

Peter Vowles, Outdoor Education Teacher

SACE Stage 1 -Outdoor Education

On Wednesday 27 September our Stage 1 Outdoor Education class met with David Speirs MP who provided a tour of Glenthorne National Park.

This was a good opportunity for students to learn about the history and development of the park. Students have been investigating the importance of management and sustainability of natural environments for habitat, biodiversity and recreation.

David Speirs was able to provide our students with valuable insight into the processes involved in developing a national park, negotiating and recognising the diversity of stakeholders needs, the reasoning behind opening up Happy Valley Reservoir for public access and metropolitan beach management strategies. Our students were able to ask questions and were well engaged in the tour, representing Aberfoyle Park High School well.
