Term 4 2023

Well done to all the Grade 3 students!

It's has been a fantastic year, filled with learning and lots of fun.

We wish all our families a safe and wonderful summer holiday!

Literacy

This Term the students learnt how to write a memoir. The students explored and identified authors craft in mentor texts as well as applying this in their writing. They revised and edited their writing to improve and achieve their goals. The Grade Three's had fun writing also exploring different types of writing genre in their writer's notebook. In reading the students continued to work on comprehension strategies including making inferences and text connections. Students continued to work in small groups to develop a deeper understanding of the text.

Mathematics

This Term students learnt about different types of measurement. Students investigated length, mass, area and capacity. During these lesson students experienced lots of hands-on learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Students also furthered their knowledge of location. Classes explored the language we use when communicating directions to others including compass directions, left, right, above, below, forwards and backwards. Students were able to locate objects on a map using grid reference points and compass points.

Inquiry

This Term the Inquiry question 'How can we contribute to commemorating Indigenous culture in Australia?' Students investigated the diversity of Australia's first peoples and how they are connected to Country and Place. The students learnt about the first fleet and the colonies that once existed and the path to Federation. The students enjoyed researching significant Australia annual days which acknowledge and commemorate indigenous culture learning and discussing what they could do support these events.

Excursion

Our Melbourne Musuem and Imax excursion were a great success with students thoroughly enjoying learning about Indigenous cultures and learning how to protect our oceans plants and animals.
