STEM Report

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations on making it to the end of another year at RPPS. I'd like to take this opportunity to say thankyou to all the people that made this year a success. Parents, students, teaching staff and educational support staff, we couldn't have done it without you. Sometimes even the smallest contributions can make a big difference in a learning program. Whether it be lending a hand to clean up, donating materials or even a friendly smile, these small gestures of kindness can change our experience at school.

In this final STEM report for the year, I will leave you with some great work from our 2023 Prep students. Prep can often be a challenging year for teachers, creating routines and setting expectations can take time and a lot of patience. Having said that, Prep can also be one of the most rewarding experiences as a teacher. Seeing students write their first words, create friendships and develop new skills can give a sense of achievement unlike any other.

In the activity below, students explored how weather and location can influence your choice of activity or clothing. We began by brainstorming activities that you could do on a sunny day. From this discussion, one suggestion was to build sand castles at the beach. We read social stories about going to the beach and watched video tutorials with tips to construct sand structures. Students then developed their design skills by using shapes and labelling to plan their castle. Finally, they worked as a team to create their design. It was great example of how far students have come in their development and learning.
