Wellbeing

The Year Prep-1 students have been thinking about people who make them feel safe at home, at school and in our community. We generated an impressive list of people including nurses, doctors, police officers, teachers, members of the CFA and of course our parents and other trusted family members. We talked about listening to our amazing bodies - our bodies will give us signs if it is not feeling safe or comfortable!

Our Wellbeing puppets were highly engaging acting out scenarios where they did not feel safe or happy, and it was pleasing to hear the sound advice given to the puppets by the students. Tango the Tiger, then helped the students learn the powerful strategy, No, Go, Tell (saying no, going away from the situation and telling a safe adult) if ever a student doesn’t feel safe. The students grew with confidence practising saying no, moving away and then talking with their pretend adult. The students have loved identifying and decorating some of their safe people and are very proud of their creations.

The Year 2-6 students were lucky enough to have some extra Wellbeing time this week with a very special guest – Emma Kearney.  Emma is a very accomplished footballer who plays for and captains North Melbourne in the AFLW competition. Emma, who is originally from Cavendish, led us in a highly motivating session focusing on GRIT, what makes a successful person and unpacking how that person might have achieved their success.

Emma’s session was highly engaging, fun, and interactive with the Year 2-6 students being given timed challenges to complete throughout the session.

We would like to thank Emma for being so approachable, generously giving us her time and motivating us to always have GRIT! We hope her team has a great game on Sunday against the Adelaide Crows!
