Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

THE POWER OF STEAM!

In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, our senior school classes are engaging in innovative and imaginative learning in STEAM. Over the past term, our students have been learning how to use immersive technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality and 3D modelling to explore the possibilities for future, sustainable communities.

Virtual Reality

In the world of virtual reality (VR), our students have created virtual worlds to reflect their unique personalities and aspirations for the future. Students have created what they think a smart city looks like and have designed gadgets in the virtual space to contribute to the resolution of real-world issues such as waste management, transport, and energy. Our students find this experience incredibly exciting as it immerses them in learning and provides a creative, imaginative platform to showcase their understanding.

Augmented Reality and Merge Cubes

Through the magic of augmented reality (AR) and Merge Cubes, our students have been able to place their digital designs of gadgets and inventions in the real world. This technology has been super fun to play with as students get to see their work in a new and interactive way while also sparking their curiosity and interest in this innovative technology. In our sessions, students have been able to project computerised images of objects into the real world and manipulate them from different angles and create deeper understandings of that object.

3D Modelling

In our exploration of 3D modelling, students have integrated the design engineering process with their creative and imaginative ideas. Students have created vibrant and detailed 3D models and images, showcasing their skills in design, creative and critical thinking, and ability to use new programs. Students have created 3D models of school playgrounds, avatars and futuristic gadgets and inventions. Our students have excelled in this area, particularly our Year 4 students who were introduced to 3D modelling only this term. They have quickly developed new skills to navigate the new program and have been very enthusiastic and passionate about their creations.

Overall, it has been amazing to see our students develop their skills in using these immersive technologies. However, this journey isn’t just about technology, it’s a platform for students to redefine possibilities and showcase their unique perspectives, problem-solving skills, and innovative and imaginative thinking.

Take care and stay safe!

Kind regards,

Darren Wallace
