This week the school has hosted two significant community events with the annual school Disco and a Smoking Ceremony conducted by Wurundjeri Elder, Murrundindi.

Last Friday CHAPS hosted the annual school Disco, the Stadium was abuzz with colour and energy and students danced the evening away.

A huge thank you to Nikki Edwards (her final CHPS disco as her youngest daughter graduates at the end of 2023) and Danielle Bell for their oganisation of this event – a highlight of the year for many students.

On Monday, Murrundindi came to Croydon Hills to conduct a Smoking Ceremony. He shared stories of his culture with the students and played the digeridoo during the ceremony. Year 6 student, Ellie W presented Murrundindi with a Croydon Hills Primary School Indigenous sports top, which she helped design.  She shared her thinking behind the design, her favourite parts of the design include the circle on back of the top which represents the community and the school working together and the snake on the front of the top which represents leadership.

This week during Visual Arts lessons students in Years 3 – 6 explored Aboriginal stories and were taught how to throw a boomerang correctly. This was be a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn and discuss Aboriginal Culture, art and stories with Murrundindi.  These lessons also complemented our teaching of Respectful Relationships by building student understanding of different cultures.
