School Council Update

School Council Highlights –  November Meeting 2023

  • School Captain, Ryder and Eddie from the Junior School represented Junior School Council (JSC). Ryder updated School Council members on the success of the soccer nets and the final stages of the projects for 2023.  Deciding on the final names for the chickens that reside at CHPS is one of the current responsibilities of JSC.  Eddie shared with us that his favourite name for the chickens is Chicken Nugget; (final names are still to be determined) and that he has enjoyed being a JSC member this year.  He has enjoyed going to meetings and gathering feedback from his classmates. Thanks Eddie and all JSC members for spending time enhancing many elements and experiences within the school for your fellow students to enjoy this year and in the future.
  • CHAPS - thanks again to the CHAPS crew and additional volunteers for organising the hugely successful School Disco last week. The much anticipated Colour Run is scheduled next week and two BBQs planned before the end of term.  Students and families continually appreciate your efforts, with family support clearly visible from the high numbers of student attendance at the events you organise.
  • Principal’s Report – in addition to references to recent celebrations for World Teachers’ Day;  the School's structural organisation for 2024;  School Council approved the first three Pupil free days for 2024 (29/1, 30/1 and 26/4). Christian also invited Councillor feedback on the school’s achievements within the four-year Strategic Plan as 2024 is the final year of the SSP.
  • Indicative Cash Budget 2024 - The Finance Committee and School Council have endorsed the Indicative Cash Budget for 2024. Thanks to Angela Stevens for her diligent and detailed work on preparing the budget. There is lot that School Council would like to achieve in 2024 to continue supporting and enhancing learning opportunities for students and the budget supports these plans. Congratulations also to Angela for achieving the highest rating attainable in the recent 2023-24 Agreed-Upon Procedures (AUPs) under the 2023-24 School Council Financial Assurance (SCFA) Program. This is credit to her finance and policy expertise and her high level of organisational and management skills more broadly.
  • Facilities and the Learning Environment - many families will have seen the cyclone fence that has been recently installed around the soccer pitch to provide a more defined boundary between the bike jumps and the soccer oval; foundations for the bike shed have been laid and there is more to come in 2024. Thanks to this committee for maintaining a detailed projects and maintenance plan and for reviewing quotes and tenders as required. Their detailed plan ensures responsible spending and prioritisation of upgrades/installation works.
  • Thanks to Wurundjeri leader, Murrundindi and his son Pallyan for hosting a Smoking Ceremony and playing didgeridoo onsite last Monday and for conducting various fun, cultural sessions with students this week. We value that you work directly with students, sharing stories and first-hand experiences of Aboriginal culture. Both Murrundindi and Pallyan commented on the vast school grounds that we have at CHPS and how welcoming and positive their interactions were with our school leaders, staff, students and families.
