Working together
Listening to students and developing students as leaders is at the heart of enabling our young people to realise their potential. This builds the skills, confidence and motivation for young people to become advocates for their own and others’ needs. It also helps them to improve their own learning through a wider range of experiences. The structure includes Senior and Junior Student Representative Teams involved in planning and decision- making together with leadership, staff and parents.
Student representation at Mount St. Joseph Girls’ College comprises of two co-operating councils, the Senior Student Leadership Team and the Junior Student Leadership Team The Student Leadership Teams promote school spirit, community service and the development of leadership skills by meeting once a cycle to provide a forum for student opinions, act on their findings and organise or coordinate functions that help build community spirit. Student Leadership Team members work in Portfolios on initiatives and activities throughout the year and share their work at each meeting, in addition to representing the College and the student body at a range of College events.
Within the Student Leadership Team, the College Captains and Portfolio Captains form the WAAMS Team, an executive team which meets once a cycle to discuss aspects of leadership, practical implementation of leadership duties and issues affecting the College, in addition to developing the links between the Student Leadership Team and student body.
