Prayer and Song
Sing with pride
As we stand our heads are high,
Our spirit will not ever die,
Together we will all walk tall,
We strong will never fall.
Mount Saint Joseph, full of pride,
A place where dreams we can decide,
People lend a helping hand,
Because together we all stand.
We, we people stand up tall,
We stand with pride, pride for us all,
People young and old, strive for a common goal,
We, we stand with pride.
Virtue is our common call
With courage we can strive for all,
Excellence is what we see,
With hope for you and me.
Virtue:
“A habitual and firm disposition to do good.
It allows the person not only to perform
good acts, but to give the best of themselves. …
‘The goal of a virtuous life is to become like God.”
(St Gregory of Nyssa)”
Courage:
Virtue of bravery in facing difficulties, especially in overcoming the fear of consequences in doing good.
St Joseph’s Lily
The white lily is often used to symbolise St. Joseph’s purity and virtue.
God,
Your spirit calls us to respond to the mysteries of the world with;
Love and compassion,
peace and justice, mercy and forgiveness, inclusiveness and dignity, virtue and courage,
May the Holy Spirit who shaped the ministry of Jesus Christ, Mary MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods, continue to shape our community in love. May our efforts bring
our faith to life as we serve one another.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.
St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop…Pray for us St. Joseph… Pray for us.
“Never see a need without doing something about it”
Mary MacKillop 1871
“Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’”
(Matthew 25:34-40)
In this passage from the Gospel of Matthew, Christ calls us to reach out to the margins, to show compassion to all. It is this teaching that forms the foundation of the Mount St. Joseph Girls’ College social justice program, providing students the means to address this responsibility of compassion and justice.
All proposed social justice activities should support Catholic Social Teachings, the vision and charism of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods, and should focus on supporting Catholic agencies, local small projects or Josephite ministries.
The College is committed to run the key ministry events associated with each College House and where possible run either awareness of fundraising events when the need may arise throughout the year.
