Building Works Update

A few weeks ago I shared that our school is about to begin a major building upgrade project to completely replace the slate roof and gutters from our heritage-listed main school building.

These works will begin this coming Monday (4th December) with stage one taking place during the last couple of weeks of term and then the upcoming school holidays.

This phase will focus on the middle section of the school building, including the bell tower and will have some major implications when it comes to school operations and access to the office.

Below is a site plan which shows where the fencing and scaffolding will be put up next week.

This means that, for the final 12 days of the school year (4th December - 19th December);

  • The main entrance door to the school office will be inaccessible. All visitors (including parents collecting early, dropping off late) will need to come into the school office via the quadrangle and up the steps. We will put signage up to direct people.

  • 1/2L will move out of the main school building and into the school library for the last 12 days of the school year as the works will be taking place directly above their classroom.

  • Access to the 3/4PC and 3/4J portable will only be possible around the back of the school, past the chicken shed and piano rooms.

  • There will be a level of noise and disruption as the trades begin the huge job of replacing the slate roof.  Whilst all attempts will be made to minimise disruption and ensure deliveries are made outside school hours, we will all need to be aware of these added challenges.

  • For families using Team Kids vacation care during the summer holidays, parts of the quadrangle will be fenced off and out of bounds although it will be possible to access the space via the covered walkway around the edge of the quadrangle.

Stage 1 will be complete by the end of the summer holidays and we will then move onto stage 2 during term 1. Again, this will cause us to make some adjustments to our normal school operations however we are confident there will be no negative impact on student learning and to a smooth start to the 2024 school year.
