As term two comes to an end, the last day will be Friday 28th June. Students will be dismissed at 2:30pm. School will resume on Monday 15th July for the start of Term 3.

Reporting Process

Teachers have been busy over the latter part of this term assessing student learning achievements and writing student reports, celebrating student learning growth throughout Semester One. On Tuesday 25th June, you will be given access to your child’s reports on Compass. Parents receive a written report twice in a school year. A student's report provides a formal record at a point in time on their progress and achievement. The key purpose of reporting is to support student learning by providing information to students and parents about student achievement and progress, and to indicate areas for further development.

SUBJECT PAGES

The subject pages provide an opportunity for teachers to report their judgements based on evidence of what each student achieved against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards, this includes:

level of achievement and progress displayed along an age-related continuum for English, Mathematics and Science
teacher comments on student achievement and progress in English and Mathematics
areas for improvement in English and Mathematics
five-point scale rating the quality of achievement for units of work in Integrated Studies, Art, PE, Music and LOTE.
effort and behaviour ratings for all specialist subjects
name of each subject teacher is included on the subject pages.

Please note that we have experienced some staffing changes and shortages in our specialist subjects this semester and as such there will be no PE reports for Yr 1 to Yr 6 students nor Music reports for our Foundation, Yr 1, Yr 2 and 3SG students.

Opportunities on Thursday 27th June have been provided for parents and carers to discuss the school report with teachers. These parent-teacher interviews promote communication between school and home and enable both the teacher and the parent and carer to work together toward their student’s learning and social wellbeing.

The objective of parent-teacher interviews is to:

involve the parents in the educational process
document the student’s progress for the parents
reflect on learning achievements and areas for improvement
give parents the opportunity to express feelings, questions and concerns
establish ongoing communication networks between the teacher, parents and student

Stay well this winter

In our school community, like many others in the area, we’ve noticed a considerable number of staff and students dealing with a variety of illnesses; colds, flu & COVID. I would like to thank everyone for their dedication to attending school, but it is very important to remember that if children are not feeling well, it is best for them to stay home and rest. In relation to COVID, there are no hard and fast rules just sensible recommendations, as below:

It is recommended that staff members, students or visitors who have symptoms of cold, influenza or COVID-19 undergo testing for COVID-19. Parents/carers of symptomatic students will be asked to collect their child from school and keep them home until they are no longer symptomatic. The Department of Health recommends that staff and students who test positive for COVID-19 isolate for a minimum of 5 days from the day of the positive test and do not attend school until their symptoms resolve.

We can all play a part in keeping our school community well by;

washing and sanitising hands regularly
avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing
staying home if unwell and consulting a general practitioner (GP) or Nurse-on-call as required
staying up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.

Student Attitudes to Schooling Survey

Students in Years 4 to 6 have recently completed The Attitudes to School Survey (ATtoSS). This survey is a mechanism for gaining an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience of school. At Clifton Hill PS, we will use the survey results to set improvement goals and to plan programs and activities to improve the learning experiences of our students.

Farewell

On Thursday 13th June, the staff farewelled Marco and Margret Siotis. Marco and Margaret have been part of our school community for the last thirty years as hard-working cleaners. Our farewell was an opportunity to celebrate the end of an era and to thank them for their dedication and commitment to our school over these many years. Often a thankless job, they brought cheer and happiness each and every day. Their retirement is well-deserved.

We wish Marco and Margaret a retirement filled with joy, relaxation, and contentment! For Marco, it will be following the rollercoaster fortunes of the Navy Blues while for Margaret, it will be the joy of spending more time with her granddaughter. They have been an invaluable asset to our school. Their conversations, shared laughs and anecdotal stories will be missed.

Annual General Meeting

Our 2023 Annual Report is now available to be viewed on the school website - www.cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au. We will be holding our Annual General Meeting in the staffroom at 6:30pm on Wednesday 21st August.

Community Coffee Cart

School Council has organised for the Ageyo coffee cart to be onsite from 8:15am-10:00am on Thursday 25th July. Come along and buy a coffee before or after our morning assembly. This is the perfect time to take some time out and chat with friends and School Council members. Details of Ageyo coffee can be viewed here.
