Dot Day Term 2

Please see the Dot Day poster for this term. Students have been busy following our school expectations, completing work and finishing assessment. Students displaying our school expectations receive dots. They are able to spend their dots on a 'Dot Day' activity.

Dot Day is on Tuesday 18th of June (Week 10)

Starting the Conversation...

Use these questions to learn about your child's day at school.

  1. Who were you most excited to see at school today? Why?
  2. If you could change one thing about school, what would it be?
  3. If I was in your class, who should I sit beside? Why?
  4. How were you helpful today?
  5. Tell me about what you did in the breaks today.

Uniforms

It is great to see all our student wearing the school uniform, particularly  as the weather turns cold . Uniforms need to be labelled as during winter, many jumpers without names are misplaced. The lost property pile is getting quite large so if you are missing any items of clothing, lunch boxes or drink bottles please check the lost property.  Please ensure your child wears their school uniform every day.

Back to School - Monday, 8th July

When the holidays draw to an end it helps to commence positive routines that support engagement and learning a few days before going back to school.

1. Reinstate the bedtime routine. All students should be in bed by 8:00 pm.

2. Limit screen time to a maximum of two hours/day, this includes television viewing.

3. Help your child organise their school belongings ready for the first day back, including bags, uniforms, shoes and hats.

4. Commence your nightly reading routine again.

5. Begin having positive conversation about going back to school, seeing their teachers and catching up with friends.

Respectful Relationships Education (RRE)

Take the opportunity to...

As parents and carers you never know when a situation might come up for a conversation with your child about respect. It could be a proactive, preventative conversation, or it could be that you’ve seen an incident that needs addressing. It’s not always going to be easy, but it’s a conversation worth having. Every time you speak out against disrespectful behaviour, we’re one step closer to creating a more respectful society.

Respect.gov.au has published a guide that can help you start the conversation.

Always know that we, as a school, are working with you to promote respect in our school and wider community.

House Competition

Students have participated in a variety of House Competitions over the year.

eSport

Our eSport competition organised by the terrific Mrs Townsend kept everyone guessing who was going to win.  Students participated in a range of games including car racing and tennis, resulting in Lucas house taking the win.  Congratulations to LUCAS!

Checkers

Last week saw the GSPS Checkers competition held in the library. Every participant was awarded a point per game, with the winner of each game awarded an extra point. It was a very close competition, with both Campbell and Watson House winning on a tie!

Thanks to the fabulous Mrs Ford and the helpful Mr Higgs for running the Checkers Comp. Keep an eye out for the next House Competition coming soon.

News from Chappy Sonia

Chappy week was a GREAT success with students engaged in a variety of activities. The winners of the colouring competition were Grace, Lucy, Mila, Aurora, Kysen, Lena and Matilda

The winner of the Chappy trivia competition was Thomas.

The students finally had a win over our staff in the Staff vs Student Quiz. The students may have had a slight advantage as many of the questions related to our current popular culture trends.  Well done Students!

Chappy Sonia has enjoyed getting to know our students over the past term. She will continue to support our students both in and outside the classroom.

Sports

Wow!! What a busy time it has been in the HPE and School Sport Department. I would like to start by thanking the students, parents and teachers of our school community who have managed to organise teams; return notes on time; pay regional nomination fees on time; transport students to various events around the region.  It takes a lot of time, effort and dedication by all parties to get these events happening.

This term our school has hosted zone rugby league trials and regional rugby union trials. Students have participated in regional tennis and soccer trials as well as the DDSS Cross Country Championships. Congratulations to all those students who participated in these trials. Our school community is very proud of the way you represented your school, community and family.

Well done to Harrison Skinner who was selected in the DDSS 11 years Rugby League team and Will Schulte who was selected in the DDSS 12 Years Rugby Union team. These boys will attend state championships later in the year.

Special mention to Willow McFarlane who represented our school as part of the DDSS 11 Years Netball team at the Qld School Sport 11 Years Netball Championships in Toowoomba on the 25th and 26th of May.

Term 2 culminates with the Senior Track and Field Carnival on Thursday 20th of June. Long Jump, Sprints, 200m Finals, 800m and House Relays will be held on this day. High Jump finals were run last Friday and Shotput events will be held this Friday. Times are listed below (times are approx):

Friday 14th June:   11.00am: 10 Yr Old SP Final (Born 2014)

12.15pm:  11 Yr Old SP Final (Born 2013)

                                    1.45pm:    12-Year-Old SP Final (Born 2012)

Thank you to all the students who have competed in trials. Your efforts have been outstanding. Participation and having a crack at different events are so important. I look forward to hearing of the results from the carnival. Remember.... the most important thing when competing is what you do, not what others around you may be doing.

Playgroup

Wednesdays 9:00m to 10:30am. Follow the Red Flags at the Prep Precinct. Bring your GREAT MATES hat, morning tea and a water bottle (and parent)!!

Playgroup supports children and families to build relationships, skills and confidence through play.  All welcome.
