VIETNAM VETERANS MUSEUM

YEAR 10, 11 AND 12 HISTORY

Year 10, 11 and 12 History students travelled with Ms Kennedy and Mr Churchill to the Vietnam Veterans' Museum in Newhaven, to enhance their studies about the Vietnam War and Ideologies.

Students experienced a lightshow video that walked them through the causes of the Vietnam War, events within the service period of Australia's contribution, and the way that returned servicemen were treated when they arrived home.

There were vests, telephone packs and some weaponry replicas that students could handle, as well as an exhibition through which students walked with a guide. Included in this was the section devoted to Indigenous Service, and the dedications to women who are slowly being considered as "fallen", as more recognition of their contributions to the war effort occurs.

Students can now apply what they have heard and seen to their studies in class and put a human face to conscription, active service and those who were repatriated.

A big thanks goes to the volunteers at the museum who dedicate themselves to raising awareness of how the Australians served in the Vietnam War and the psychological effects of warfare and their treatment back home.
