Year 1 & 2

Around our level

This fortnight in Literacy lessons students have been reading information texts and learning about the structure of an information text. Students have been learning about the ‘bossy e’ in UFLI lessons. In Writing lessons, students have been researching an Australian animal and displaying their information on a Google Slide.

In Maths lessons students have been using various tools such as number lines, unifix blocks and hundreds charts to solve subtraction problems. Students have solved worded subtraction problems with a partner. For Friday Maths students have drawn treasure maps and marked X as the spot they have hidden ‘treasure’ in the classroom, for a classmate to find.

For Wellbeing lessons, students have participated in teambuilding exercises. Students have been considering the different ways a problem can be solved, and how a resolution can be agreed on.

For Integrated Studies lessons students have been learning about the history of the telephone, and where to put pictures of phones from the 1990s and 2000s on their personal timeline.

The Year 1 students were very excited to have their mums in for afternoon tea on the Friday before Mothers Day. They had scones with jam and cream. The students loved showing them around their classrooms.

Students wrote a recount for Mother’s Day. Here are some excerpts:

1/2A:

Raiden: On Sunday, me and my family went on a family walk. When we went back home, most of my family came to my house.

Aurora: On Sunday, my mother got a massage tool and my mum used it.

Patrick: On Mother’s Day, I gave my mum her presents.

1/2B:

Georgie: On Mother’s Day, me and my sister cooked a smoothie bowl. I made a fruit salad for Mum. At lunch I went to a Japanese place.

Elijah: My Mum opened her presents from the Mother’s Day stall. My Mum went to see her Mum. We went to dinner at a Mexican place.

Quinn: “It’s Mother’s Day!” Oops I better be quiet, Mum’s asleep! Oh better get my cupcake picture and Mother’s Day banner to hang on Mum’s wardrobe

Logan: I gave my Mum some biscuits. I gave my Mum her placemat. I showed my Mum around the classroom and I showed her the Chromebook cabinet.

Archie: On the weekend it was Mother’s Day and I got her presents that came from school! She liked the presents I gave her, luckily! She did fun stuff with me. Mother’s Day was the best!

1/2C:

William: On Mothers Day we went up Mt Dandenong. We sat on a giant chair and took a photo.

Ashton Migliardi: we made my mum breakfast in bed. I gave my mum my gifts. She loved them. My dad gave my mum perfume. It was good. It was $200!

Mei: On Friday Mum came to our school. Mum sat on my spot and I gave Mum a present. Mum and I ate a bread and I went home.

Winnie: On Mothers Day we got up early and we got out our presents. Then we woke Mum up so she could open her presents. Lots of our cousins came over and we went out for lunch and dinner.
