Grade 6 News

Welcome to 2026, Year 6 families!
It has been wonderful to welcome students back to school and see how positively they have transitioned from the holidays into learning. Students have returned with a mature and enthusiastic attitude as we revised class expectations, established routines, and began our learning straight away. They have shown a strong readiness to take on the increased responsibilities and expectations of Year 6.
This year we have the following Year 6 classes: 6 McNamara/Symons, 6 Lowry, and 6 D’Antonio.
We’re also excited to share that a timetable for specialist subjects has been sent home, so please make sure to review that for any updates on subjects like PE, music, and art. Additionally, Year 6 tops will be arriving shortly, so be on the lookout for those!
As part of their growth this year, leadership roles will be discussed in class, and students will have the opportunity to apply for a leadership position through a formal application process. This will allow them to take on extra responsibilities and develop important skills for the future.
We look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child’s learning and wellbeing throughout the year. We encourage students to maintain consistent home reading routines. Reading diaries will be due each Wednesday to be checked and corrected. Please also take note of class library days and sport days throughout the term.
Please ensure your child brings a hat and drink bottle to school each day, as well as a piece of fruit for fruit break. Sunscreen is available in the classroom for students to reapply as needed.
Thank you for your ongoing support — we’re looking forward to a great year ahead.
Kind regards, The Year 6 Team
