Swimming trial and WSPS Athletics

Welcome back everyone, we’re getting straight into it this term with both a swim team trial day and the WSPS athletics carnival .

In preparation for the Northcote District Swimming Carnival (Monday 16th Feb, at Northcote Aquatic centre) we will be holding a timing session for gr 4-6 students who wish to try out for the team Wed 11th Feb at Northcote Aquatic centre. Please note that all events are 50m, therefore any student attending must be able to confidently swim 50m unassisted. 

Students will be walked to and from the Northcote Aquatic centre and will need to wear their bathers under their school uniform and a sun smart hat. They will need to bring a towel, change of underwear, (goggles if required), lunch, snacks and a labelled water bottle. Sunscreen is highly recommended. 

Students can choose to be timed for any (or all) of the following events: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly. The fastest student for each age group/event will go through to the district team. However at district level students are only permitted to compete in two individual events (and one relay team). Therefore any student who qualifies in more than two events will be given their choice of races, and the second place getter in the event not chosen will go through to the district competition. 

Families of students who have signed up for the trials should now have received an online permission form. Please read and return these as soon as possible. 

Our annual WSPS House swimming carnival will take place during term four, our gr 3 students will also be invited to take part in this event. 

WSPS Athletics Day

Our grade 4-6 students are currently preparing for our athletics day in PE classes. This will take place Mon 23rd March, at Coburg Harriers athletics track. More info about this event is coming soon!
