Sustainabilty

Sustainability news
Welcome back!
This year in Sustainability we will be working towards attaining our Energy, Water and Waste Resource Smart School stars. Once completed we will be a 5 Star Resource Smart school. We have a few exciting activities planned already, such as; using the Container Deposit Scheme money to buy and install nesting boxes, celebrating Earth day, organising a Wear it Wild dress up day, installing a Butterfly garden and finding a new home for ‘Compost Carla’ our new Green waste composter.
Chip packets
The Sustainability Group will be organising boxes for collecting chip packets to be reused as an art installations. Thank you to Anna Schoo (Kit & Joey’s mum) for giving us this great opportunity to reuse our waste. Anna has also donated many plants that we can use for our Butterfly garden.
Stationery
If you have any stationery lying around looking for a good home, Elisabeth O’Dea (Erica & Elliot’s mum) has found a great initiative called ‘Project Stationery’ that will take unused/slightly used stationery and distribute to those who need it.
The link to their Facebook is here with contact details if you are interested:

Sustainability Group- new members
Over the coming weeks we will be asking for Grade 4 students who would like to become part of the Sustainability Group. To join, any interested students in Year 4 or 5 should please write a letter to explain *Why they would like to be in the club, * What attributes they possess that they think will be useful and that *They understand they will need to come each week during lunchtime. The Sustainability group meets each Wednesday the first half of lunch in Room 6 Clyde St building (Toby’s classroom).
Container Deposit Scheme barcode- school donations
We have raised $139.90 through the container deposit scheme so far. This money will go towards buying bird nesting boxes to improve the biodiversity at Wales Street.
If you would like to donate to Wales Street via the Container Deposit Scheme you can now use this barcode and Zone ID: C2000043989
Not all Container Deposit Scheme stations will accept this barcode as they are zoned into areas.
Here is a link to CDS locations: https://cdsvic.org.au/locations
If you use a CDS station outside this area, you can still donate to the school by requesting a voucher and handing it into the office.
Yours in sustainability,
Toby Marquette
