Welcome Preps to your first term of  STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)!

Grades P-6

This term the whole school will be starting with a Science block focusing on Physics.

The Preps will be learning about forces and movement with a focus on pushing and pulling forces. 

The Grade 1s will be learning about pushing and pulling forces and how they can change an object's movement or shape, representing these forces in terms of strength and direction. 

The Grade 2s will be learning about sound. We will look at how different actions can be used to produce varying sounds of varying pitch and volume and leaning about sounds vibrations. 

The Grade 3s will be focusing on heat energy, learning about heat generation and transfer of heat between objects. 

The Grade 4s will be learning about frictional, gravitational, electrostatic and magnetic forces. Looking at how forces can be exerted by objects on other objects through contact or from a distance,. 

The Grade 5s will be looking at light. Learning about its production, how it travels, how it can form shadows and how it can be absorbed, transmitted, reflected or refracted. 

The Grade 6s will be learning about materials as electrical insulators or conductors, how energy is transferred transformed in electrical circuits. 

After learning these key components of Physics, students will learn about some engineering principles and apply this in a design process, solving problems with their new scientific knowledge.
