Nut Aware

Heidelberg Primary School is a Nut Aware School

An allergic reaction or anaphylaxis can occur through ingestion of nut products, cross contamination, breathing nut dust in the air and touching nuts products or surfaces that have been exposed to nuts.

A school that identifies itself as Nut Aware, usually asks for the parents of every child, whether they are allergic to nuts or not, to consider peanut and tree nut alternatives when planning individually packed lunches.

Since this condition can be life threatening, we are asking all members of the school community for their help in minimising the risk to these children by:

  1. Avoiding giving children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
  2. Avoiding giving nuts or nut products or snacks / bars containing nuts for recess snacks
  3. Avoiding supplying the school with cakes or food items containing nuts (or traces of nuts) for birthday celebrations.
  4. Heidelberg Primary school does not allow students to share food.

Foods that are labelled “may have been produced in a factory handling nuts and cannot be guaranteed to be nut free”, will be allowed at school.

We thank you in advance for your co operation and support regarding this matter.

BOOK CLUB 2026

Welcome to 2026. I am always excited to be the teacher-librarian here at HPS. I will be working with students each week in the library, encouraging them to read and enjoy books, listening to and reading stories, doing some fun creative activities, sharing information and basically…. everything bookish. Please keep a look out for latest information here or in our weekly Capers newsletter.
