Embracing change and growth

As we step into Term 1 of 2026, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the fresh start ahead. With the excitement of a new year and a new term, there’s a lot of anticipation in the air. Whether you’re starting a new grade, taking on new subjects, or facing a new group of friends, the beginning of Term 1 offers a chance to start anew. But with that newness often comes the challenge of settling in and adjusting to changes.

Adapting to new routines

At the start of the year, you might feel a bit out of sync with the routine—perhaps your schedule is different, or you're still getting used to new teachers or classroom setups. This is all part of the process. While it can take time to adjust, know that these initial struggles are completely normal. Everyone goes through a period of transition when starting something new.

One way to ease into the rhythm of Term 1 is by setting small goals for yourself each day. Maybe it’s getting all your homework done by a certain time or learning one new thing in class that you didn’t understand before. Breaking it down into smaller, achievable tasks will make it easier to settle in without feeling overwhelmed.

Taking time for yourself

Sometimes, settling into the pace of a new term can feel like a lot of pressure. Whether it’s academic demands or social adjustments, the expectations of a new year can weigh on you. It’s crucial then, to make space for self-care. You don’t need to be “on” all the time, and it’s okay to take a break when you need it. Whether it's reading, spending time with friends, or simply resting, balancing your work with moments of relaxation will help you stay grounded and focused.

Build your support network

As the new term unfolds, remember that you don’t have to navigate these changes alone. Whether it’s talking to a teacher about an assignment, checking in with friends, or seeking guidance from a school counsellor, there are always people here to help you through the adjustments. It’s easy to get caught up in the busy pace of a new term, but don't forget to reach out when you need support. Building connections early on will give you a stronger sense of belonging as the term progresses.

Trusting God in times of change

Change, while sometimes uncomfortable, is an essential part of growth. As we settle into the rhythms of Term 1, it’s a good time to remind ourselves that God’s plan for us is unfolding in every season, including this one. Even when the changes feel overwhelming, we can trust that He is working in and through us, guiding us toward a future full of growth and purpose. As it says in Romans 8:28:

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

So, whether you’re facing the challenge of a new subject, a new class, or just the uncertainty of what’s to come, lean into the season with trust. Embrace the opportunity to grow, knowing that every step you take is part of God’s plan for you.

Term 1 of 2026 is full of potential, and it’s in the small adjustments, the learning, and the challenges that we’ll find the greatest opportunities for personal growth. Keep moving forward with confidence, knowing that with each new step, you are becoming stronger and more resilient.
