Year 8 News

Vermont Secondary College

At the conclusion of the year, we’d all like to say thank you to our Year 8s for the fantastic year you’ve had. It’s a privilege to be your Student Managers.

You are such a lovely group of students — supportive, respectful, great sports, and always willing to get involved. Whether it’s in class, out on the field, or in all the extracurricular activities you throw yourselves into, you consistently show enthusiasm and effort. We also want to congratulate you on the way you’ve handled your new class groupings for next year. We’ve been genuinely impressed with the lack of complaints and the maturity you’ve shown. Next year you’ll be mixing with different houses, meeting new people, and forming new friendships, and we know you’ll adapt beautifully.

As you step into Year 9, we’re really looking forward to seeing you grow as our new junior school leaders. You have such potential, and we have every confidence you’ll prove just how brilliant Year 9s can be.

Next year you’ll also get the chance to explore different electives, discover new interests, and continue to grow both academically and personally. Make the most of these years — when you look back, you’ll want your school memories to be some of your best.

For now, enjoy your well-earned summer holidays and Christmas break. Rest, recharge, have fun, and come back ready for an exciting year ahead.

Well done on a great year, Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Freeman, Mr Scott & Mr Nyhuis.

YEAR 8 DIGITECH

Year 8 Digital Technology students were challenged to design and produce an interactive Sound Simulator App as part of their learning this year. The project required students to plan and build a user-friendly interface that incorporated thoughtful design elements such as images, icons, animations, and sound effects. Using block coding, students learned how to use variables and conditional statements to make their apps work correctly. The project helped students build their coding skills while also thinking carefully about how users would interact with their app. The final sound apps were well beyond expectations. Students showed great creativity and confidence, producing apps that were fun, interactive, and well designed.

Many students included extra features and smooth animations, showing a strong understanding of how coding works. Their effort and enthusiasm were clear, and the finished digital products were something to be very proud of.
